Crashes

Hello.
I recently installed ONI on my new computer and can't get it to work.
I'm used to the game so I knew pretty well what to do.
Clean install, tried the XP patch, then Daodan to take benefit of widescreen textures, selected the Buka version because it allows accents (I use the French install).
I selected 1680x1050 32 bits, imported saves and key config from an old backup and supposedly, everything should have been fine.
Well, not at all. I can get the game and levels to load and run, even move around a bit but it crashes after seconds and I have no idea why.
Cinematics and scripted intros run fine.
Startup.txt attached to my message.

What I tried so far :
- Uninstall, erase all trace of the game and install again without any mod or imported key config or saves.
- Tried XP fix, with or without daodan in all available versions (east, west, buko).
- Turn down resolution.
- Load various saved games. Depending on the level it crashes right after I start playing or it takes a big longer but always crash in the end.
None of this worked, so I'm really desperate. Idea anyone ?
Thanks a lot.

Re: Crashes

don't use XP patch.

http://geyser.oni2.net/EXE/pc.buka/ use both of those files.

Though I think that the east version (http://geyser.oni2.net/EXE/pc.east/) would work just fine.

Though it sounds like there might be a scripting problem (oddly enough, fairly common). Lets get rid of the XP fix first though. smile

Re: Crashes

Thanks.
I just tried both again, buka and east. The same problem occurs.
I remember I used Buka because with East I get corrupted text when checking computer consoles in game.
Would it fix anything if I installed the anniversary patch ? I know the upgrade takes a while so I'd rather do it over a game that works already.

Re: Crashes

No. Right now installing the AE would increase our problems, especially considering the possibility of corrupted files.

Hmm. Make sure your video drivers are up to date. Other than that, I can't really help at the moment. Do you have another copy of Oni (from a friend?) you could try? Let me do a quick search through previous problems to see if i can find the same one.

Re: Crashes

Jazz_Ad said that he got a new computer. Maybe the driver is too "modern". Or maybe I'm wrong....

Re: Crashes

If he got a new computer, then chances are he is using outdated drivers. smile

Re: Crashes

Uh oh. Not good. According to my anonymous sources, the daodan dll's GL extension fix isn't working on the newest ATI HD cards. Not good.

Umm. The only thing I can suggest is to try using integrated video >_<

Your problem will hopefully be fixed ASAP.

Re: Crashes

I have no idea what I did but it seems to work now, no crash tonight.
Drivers were and are up do date.
Aw well, thanks. Back to playing. big_smile
