Wanted: Fully but simple rigged Oni character

We all know it: our current way of animating sucks. Moving and rotating each body part separately is very time consuming. There must be something more efficient.

So I think it would be cool if we find out how to make real rigs.

After that's done we could think about telling Neo to allow export/import of such rigged characters (*.xsi), or at least a script that handels the auto-creation of rigs after loading a dae and removal before saving dae files.

In Mod Tool you can create a rig bottom-up: Model/Animate [mode] > Create > Skeleton > 2D / 3D Chain

There are possibly other ways to build a rig.

Does ONI engine support rigged skeletons? I doubt that?
Anyway, it will be nice to have a nice rigged model of konoko.

No it doesn't.

Anyway, having a rigged model leaves us with two options.
  A) Asking Neo to allow TRAM creation from rigged models (*.xsi). Or if he says no ...
  B) Transferring the animation data from an rigged model to a non-rigged clone (*.dae). That can be done with scripting in Mod Tool.

Atm I'm trying to write an auto-rigging script.

hell yeah... some engines can also retarget animations for different rigs, they only must be humaniod-like

I'm also THINKING about making a little comeback in modding since I've recently got an idea or two and I've been thinking on them a little bit too much.

But first things first:

Any news on those rigs or some other, more proper way to animate?

I talked with Neo, if someone can make a rigged character, using the 19 body parts Oni needs, create an animation and then export that animation as collada or dae, then he can look at the data and see if it possible.

Anyone willing to give it a try?

I might try, plus I've got this idea to make ugly, but maybe effective rips of Tekken animations. Could you join the IRC channel for a minute?
