I managed to get my hands on an Oni press kit from 1999 ish era. Most of the stuff is more 'fun' than interesting, with PSDs of posters, ads, cutouts, ect.
But then there is also some more interesting stuff. There are a load of pre-beta screens I've never seen before, concept art I've never seen before, a story document from 1999, and some other interesting tidbits.
Obviously I thought of you guys first, but some of it needed going through, as there are such things in here as a 200MB background image for a poster, which is just kinda hmm. So, with some help from Irit, and Alloc, it's all available for you to see online now. Be it in .tar.gz archives, or file by file, it can be found here:
In addition to those who don't care about digging through old files, Irit's been kind enough to post the interesting stuff at the wiki, however you can only see 48 updates at a time, so you still will need to go through a few pages to see it all. Since it only shows 48 per page, click "newer 48" to go to the next page. continue with this until there are not new pages, to see everything.
Note: Irit has added notes to some of the images, so you might want to click them to open the image in a new window, scroll down to see the notes.

As well as two more documents from the archives made into wiki pages from Irit:

Finally, Plague Bearer set up a Oni Hotline server, for those that remember, or never heard of it. Hotline essentially is a mixture of irc, ftp, in a very nice package. Marathon, Myth and Halo all have their own Hotline servers, so I figure it's time Oni had one too. If it doesn't catch on, so be it, but I would love to chat with some of you guys in real time.
To connect to the Oni hotline, download a hotline client here: http://hotline.wikia.com/wiki/Clients
And connect to this address (don't worry about a login or password): oni.prevenge.com:5555
Finally, yes, sorry to get you super excited, but there are some _very_ early pictures of the BGI level among the files. Nothing really to get excited about though.
-JG
P.S. Keep on Oni-ing.

So, I might be a little biased because I spent hours setting up the material on the wiki, but I think the wiki is the fastest, easiest way to "tour" the information from the press kit discs. Essentially the information is all graphics except for the two .doc files which I turned into wiki articles, as linked to above. But those who want to see all the gory details can use Jon's whole disc images or surf his Unarchived directories.
P.S.: If you do see a graphics file you like on the wiki, there might be a PSD or EPS version of it, possibly CMYK and print-ready, in Jon's original files.

At least we finally sorted out how old Konoko is.
I wonder what is she doing here: http://wiki.oni2.net/w/images/8/84/Vago1.JPG and here: http://wiki.oni2.net/w/images/3/38/Vago2.JPG
The pit level seems very nice: http://wiki.oni2.net/File:Pit2.JPG
And how about somebody finishes this one: http://wiki.oni2.net/w/images/4/4b/Konstart1.jpg So we can put it in game? Litria, Guido, you there?

The Pit level was the multiplayer level that they demoed a few times.

Totally agree, that's some old but still cool stuff. Thank you very much for sharing!
(about Vago1 image, isn't it the 'kick spawn' used in OTA ?)

The (Construction) Pit was actually heavily featured in the trailer among other places. This section of the Pre-beta page (which hasn't had the new pictures incorporated into it yet) shows the other aspects of the level, which you'll find quite familiar.

I'm still annoyed by the fact that they had to cut all this good stuff away. If everything was done as planned, it could have killed a lot of games in its era. Like e.g. Halo.

On the subject of cut content, these are the only screenshots of BGI we obtained:
http://wiki.oni2.net/File:BGI1.JPG, http://wiki.oni2.net/File:BGI2.JPG, http://wiki.oni2.net/File:BGI3.JPG, http://wiki.oni2.net/File:BGI4.JPG.
So whatever Bungie had made may not have been far along. Although we did encounter some interesting screenshots in another location while I'll be uploading later today (I forgot to do it when we discovered them a couple months ago). We'll have to consider whether those might be BGI as well.

This is awesome - and there's a lot of original artwork that can be tweaked into potential wallpapers here I'm gonna have some fun!
Like so, different aspect ratios...

Interesting, I haven't seen those pictures before, 'dox, maybe we can get them up on the wiki. The wiki has a box art category for anyone who's interested. We also have a category for wallpapers if any wants to make new ones from the new art. I like the one you made, Bozzman, although it's not the right aspect ratio for my screen.

Making multiple resolutions/ratios is easy - just let me know what you want

I wonder why they cut what they did. Most notably, the brighter-coloured style and seemingly more detailed places.
Thanks for this. It's really interesting.

I have the quasi-widescreen resolution 1680x1050

Hardy once said that the blues in many of the levels felt too clichéd as a sort of generic futuristic color palette, so they changed them to browns.
Some of the detail, such as the nice (and sensible) railings on the TCTF HQ ramps were cut due to performance issues. Apparently all that glass was slowing the game down. The same was probably true for the dynamic shadows.

Nice stuff, thanks for sharing. If the campbell could pierce through armour I'd love it even more than I do now (it's already my fav weapon)
There are a whole lot of stuff I cant open though, mostly tar files
-I noticed that the hackers of oni community made a lot of modifications before they locked me up, do you have any idea what they want with an old game? -Modifications? What kind of modifications?
-Hard to tell, without getting a look at things but it looks like they're repurposing it. -Why?
-Beats me, all the game has is brutal melee combat and furious gunplay. -I dont like the sound of that.....

Thanks, Bozzman, I'm going to apply this desktop right now!
I have to retract my statement that I might have had some more shots of BGI. Upon further inspection, most of the screenshots are of existing levels, albeit in an earlier form. I've uploaded the more interesting screenshots anyway. Check the New Files page on the wiki to see what I've added (14 images).

The tar files are the whole disc images, which Jon God unarchived in his UnarchivedFiles directory, so nothing should be inaccessible to you.

Unless you believe in time travel, the old version does not exist. These are pictures of a game, not the game itself.
