Max and 3d program problem....

at the moment im really trying to do somthing but i just have problem in every ten minutes ...right now ,my max program is just for exporting .max file into other format (to get it working in blender xsi etc....*cos im no good  max....^but i will^*
my problem is ....i have two max ,one is max version7(in english) and one is 8(is in chinese)*my chinese version could not readable.....the word are all gone '' ? ''(question mark)....my max version 7 could not open a lot of the max.file that i have ,but the version 8 could ....so right now i really dont know what to do.....
alternative solution :
1. get the word fix for version 8
2. get the missing dll for version 7 either from download or from version 8
( but none this solution seem to working for my knowledge..... )

....the other problem is ...
i had a obj files.....(as i said i could not read what it said on the version 8.....) i tick everything when i export ....and it came up with a obj and a mtl files .....
my problem is ....
1.what is the mtl files /??
2.i knew that i export with the texture  but for some reason i import it into blender ....it doesnt work *i dont know how to put the texture on .....*

my last problem is .....(it might only apply to people who have these software =])
im ttrying to use ac3d  ,,, 4d cinema ,,, max,,,gmax,,,blender,,,to get all the files round back to XSI ....so basiclly im trying to export files from one software to the other ...until i could get it working in xsi ..... but obj doesnt work .....
and i just cant waste my time to keep on checking which software and which format i should use ....so if anyone done it b4 please could u tell me ..

I don't understand why u're not using XSI to begin with ? it supports dae and obj and those are the only formats that oni split can convert.

why are u using max and blender and  ... to begin with

& probably ur computer doesn't have chinese language installed check in control panel add-remove languages or something ...

blender is similar to xsi ,and it support obj,and so does max ....but anyway ...i still need to find the actual solution for now  sad

& probably ur computer doesn't have chinese language installed check in control panel add-remove languages or something ...

i dont think it wud work like this ,,,,,

dream996: The best format to export from MAX is FBX, a number of 3D programs can import FBX.
FBX will retain the UV coordinates, pivot points of the parts and so on. 

OBJ loses some information. MTL files are the companion to OBJ files, it holds information about the textures.

are u sure ??? but which one should i install ???? i thought u need program but anyway i will try and check it this weekend  smile

a number of 3D programs can import FBX.

#does it apply to xsi ????and could u export texture with it ??

*im trying to export something WITH the texture .im not so sure how to export it with the texture in the files(like the dae that we could export from the onisplit GUI)......(or do i have to export it seprately (like having two files?)

--btw guys....im trying to get the     3d model AND The texture      working in xsi from MAX by exporting the model using different type of 3d porgram ......

dream996: Yes, XSI can import FBX and texture.  Can you give the URL to the model you want to import?

big_smile  thx edt !! i got the fbx export working ....
and i could IMPORT it into xsi but i couldnt EXPORT it to dae .... sad
in the xsi ....i press export ...but nothing happened sad

File/ Export/ Crosswalk... select COLLADA 1.4.1 as Crosswalk File Type give it a filename and location for the export.  Click on the Export button.

dont you mean file->crosswalk ->export ???
it kinda work....(i would export it to a dae but i couldnt import it back...

i clicked files ->Crosswalk-> import  big_smile

now im somewhere in the middle of an island
could somebody tell me what to do next ?

Its time for you to teach yourself XSI with the help of the tutorials found here:

Its going to take time, lots of effort on your part.  Learning 3D is not easy, I'm learning it very slowly.

dream996:  Is your model a character or an object like a weapon?

If it is a character, the model will need to have the following basic characteristics:

1) The correct size
2) The model is made up of 19 parts.
3) Each part has the correct parent child relationship
4) The pivot point for each part is in the correct position and orientation
5) Each body part is properly aligned and rotated

What does all that mean?  The best way to understand is to import a character from Oni into XSI and see how it is made.  Then compare your model to it.

(if u could tell me how could u export level as well*level* is like the level into xsi

Extract the ONWC as OBJ from Oni.  Extract AKEV as DAE from Oni.

dream a lot of ur questions can be answered by simply looking at the wiki it takes same time to look there, as it takes u to write the question . regarding the ONWC and AKEV

and as a general advice don't jump so much between projects while still not getting anything done .. one minute u're doing characters the other weapons the other levels .. u'll just complicate urself :\

it save my time and i got bored with the same thing  neutral  and im trying to get everything working (understand)in my head because i have the walk a long way just for a computer (that would go on the internet ! smile

at the wiki it takes same time to .....

where should i look ,,,,

as I said in the wiki click on OniGalore Wiki at the top ( i'm sure u know that) then search for ONWC and u'll get ur answer to post 19.

I know Edt is the best tutor ever smile and he doesn't mind nor hesitate to help, but still u should try to rely on urself a bit smile

dream996: You can edit an existing 3D level model in XSI, however, when importing it back to Oni, it will not have the pathfinding grids.  So the AI, does not know where to move, so they will just stand around or only fight within a small area.

If you type in ai2_showgrids = 1 in the console you can see the pathfinding grids in the current levels

The programmer of OniSplit is working to add pathfinding to imported levels, but, I don't know when it will be done.

So in the meantime, you can edit a level model, add stuff to it and then import it back to Oni and run around in it. :-)

Now I have never done any level modeling, so you will be on your own.  But the stuff you will learn editing the level, you can make a tutorial for the rest of us. smile

what if i just add a little bit of stuff into the level that wont (impossible) be able to block the ai's way

that would do =]] better than nothing (but could i del the whole thing and redo it ???

you can make a tutorial for the rest of us.

i dont think anyone will be able to understand me  sad  my english is too BAD

ok...when importing back could i be able to rename it as something else so on the LOAD game u could have it as a seprate level ,.,,,like the obselete??
