I've started going through the games on GameFAQs by system so I can build a list of what I've played and owned, and I like the list of systems that they have here, broken down by generation: http://www.gamefaqs.com/systems.html. Thought I would poll you guys and see what generation was the earliest in which you played a console. I started with the Atari 2600 myself, although it was a hand-me-down and already quite old at the time. I also played games on the Apple II. So that makes me 2nd generation!

I can't remember exactly, but I know for a fact that my first owned console was a PlayStation. But I remember playing video games before that on the PC. The earliest I remember is playing Quake II with my dad when I was 4. That was probably around late 1998.

As I never owned any console (consoles are only good for games and as I always did serious work on a computer it was no use) and the PC-gens aren't listed I can only guess ... but my first very own machine was a 486dx so around 1992. Oh, and I actually owned a SEGA GameGear, but that was like 1998 or even later
But I still play Amiga (Deluxe Galaga, best Space Invaders *EVER*), SNES (mostly Aladdin, Super Mario Kart, Yoshis Island) or N64 (MarioKart 64). Just good old games
Same for PC.

My first console was NES. Third Generation then.

That's true, I didn't think about the PC users who didn't play consoles early on. Some of the old computers are on there, like the C64, because they were a separate platform from the modern PC, but all DOS and Windows games are lumped together. So that makes it hard to classify someone like Alloc (btw, yay for retro gaming, I'm currently trying to beat MM7 for the SNES ).

Well, if it's age we're talking about, I'm the oldest without dispute Out of the ones who've replied here, that is.

The first and only console I've ever had (I still do) was a Playstation 2. I've spent my childhood entirely on 6th generation games, so I consider pretty much everything released from 1998 to 2003 as 24 carat gold.

Heh, I should have known that, I don't know why I thought you were referring to age. Possibly I knew and was just being difficult Yes, my hand-me-down Atari's controllers were semi-busted, which didn't help me when playing the harder games.
But I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience those games in all their limited glory; it gives one a greater appreciation for what games can do now. Pitfall was pushing the system so hard that it couldn't even draw to the whole screen (note the black borders here)! Adventure was the first (action-)adventure game, so they just called it Adventure (it also invented the Easter egg). Most of the games were just called what they were, because no one had taken the name yet. "Ice Hockey". "Football".
Besides that, how many people can say that they actually played E.T. for the Atari 2600, "the game that caused the crash of the video game market"?

Played Croc too but in Saturn. Loved that game.

I'm 2-th generation player too. Started with Atari (but my really young yes back then; even saw zx-spectrum ) ,then c64, amiga 500 ,Arcade(?) , pegasus, pc, ps2 and pc again.
Pitfall..good memories...or Montezuma(the game where you need to memorize every trap and stage to be bale to finish the hardest difficulty)
Iritscen maybe you can help me recall thous names
-The Atari game similar to chess- but in arcade style (the black figures have more health on black areas and white on white areas and fight was in real time between thous figures on the empty stage , when they meet - The figures also where divided in to ranged one and close combat one.)
-Another one from C64 - shooter similar in design to contra (but not Judge dreed)
Btw. Who Remember Bruce Lee game - probably first game composing the h2h fight with platforming , or Ninja -h2h with throw-able elements(knifes, surikens)?

Real men are 8th Generation.

No.
The 8th generation console gamer is the PC gamer who's managed to hold out on buying a console or any other closed platform these past 30-40 years.
The gamers who developers like 343 Industries (Infamous for their utter rape of Halo which I sadly was on the hype train for) are trying to bully into buying consoles by shutting down the master servers for older (And you better fucking believe better) games and making the new (And horrid) ones console exclusive and/or making the PC versions abysmal console ports.

So what happens when 8th gen is officially dominant? Will you become 9th?
