Re: New forum discussion

That was the hack, yeah.

I don't know why attachments don't show up as mini previews within posts. Guess that's how the mod was coded.

It didn't for me. It doesn't matter really; I can hold down some buttons while clicking to open in new tabs (BTW, using Safari on Mac)

You mean the Profile/Display setting has no effect in Safari? Good to know...

Ok, now that you mention it was a preference, it works now... sorry if I seem ignorant.

Re: New forum discussion

Wikipedia wrote:

Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is also the state of being ignorant or uninformed. For example, "Bill lost the debate because he was ignorant of that subject." In such a case the term is not pejorative, and may even be used as a self-descriptive term, as in, "I am ignorant of English history." Another definition states that ignorance is the choice to not act or behave in accordance with regard to certain information in order to suit ones own needs or beliefs. For example, "I know better but I choose to ignore that and act in a way that behooves me." Ignorance is often misinterpreted as a synonym of stupidity, and is as thus often taken as an insult, when really it is, in its correct form, not an insult at all but a criticism.

Re: New forum discussion

Sigh...

What does "ignorant" mean?

was supposed to be a self-referential joke.
Here's another one in the same vein:

Hey, why is everybody calling [insert movie title here] a stupid movie? I actually liked it!

Re: New forum discussion

Harry, thanks for moving THIS to Help & Troublebashing.

As for attachments, we tackled the issue a bit on the Screenshots thread (sorry for the joyous off-topicness) and came to the following two conclusions and a half:
* the current mod doesn't let non-members see the attachments (no link at end of post)
** even if you take the "URL" of an attached image and embed it into a post a posteriori
* Phydur is seriously out of luck

I might be forgetting some, but Phydur here has tried uploading images (supposedly 640x480) in PNG and BMP, with and without a firewall, through IE and his usual browser, and still never managed a successful upload. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Re: New forum discussion

First of all, if you're going to post an image for viewing on the web, stay far away from BMP. It's unecessary bloat. In fact, I am tempted to set it to always deny bmp images.

Second, PNG should work just fine. The maximum file size allowed is 512000 bytes and as far as I know there are no restrictions on resolution.

I fiddled with some settings so maybe Phydur can try again. Guests should now be able to see attached files, too.

I can also boost the number of attachments allowed in a post if desired, but you can't post multiple ones all at once. You have to edit your message for every additional attachment.

I also missed adding in the capability to delete an attachment off your own post. This should work now as well.

Re: New forum discussion

Well, out here, pages don't always load super-fast, but since sometimes they do...
I wouldn't blame the slowdown on the forum engine: on the server load if anything.
Also, IPB is not exactly free...

EDIT: Harry, thanks a lot for your work on attachments. And for the links up there smile

Re: New forum discussion

Yeah it seems the server is to blame. PunBB is actually very zippy, but in this case I don't know. I'll talk to the server admin.

Re: New forum discussion

Here's to trying again.
sorry for being such a problem. hmm

-Edit-
woo-who! it worked! yay! big_smile

so this is what i've been trying to upload this entire time.

Re: New forum discussion

What about "This interview is over!"? (be sure to post it back on Screenshots)

If the slow problem is the current forum software I recommend smf.

Re: New forum discussion

I may have to get the forum moved to a different server if there is no viable fix. It's not the forum software, because PunBB is usually a very fast forum.
