Moved ~/.local/share/steam. Ran steam. It deleted everything on system

Oh jeez.  I'm surprised none of them have mentioned Myth II yet, but one person is saying that Half-Life had the same problem.  This is why, when I added an update feature to the AE Installer which would take instructions from a file on what old packages were to be deleted, I also wrote a dedicated function (StringIsLegalPathForDeletion) to make sure that a typo or hack could not turn the instructions into an "rm -rf /*" bomb for AE users.  Here, someone just said "gee, this looks scary" and left it alone.
