How To Transfer Save Progress?

Hey guys. I got a new computer, and need to transfer Oni over. However I can't remember how to transfer my saves. Does anyone know where to go to find your save files and how to transfer Oni so I can continue on the level where I left off? Thanks.

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Your games are saved in persist.dat, which sits next to Oni.exe.  You can also alter a persist.dat with an editor to recreate your progress.

Thanks. So do I go to the Program files and then the Oni folder?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Probably, yes, if Oni is installed in the usual location.

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

It just says:

GameDataFolder
binkw32.dll
Oni
ONI
readme

and uninstall

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Oh, you must be on Vista, or possibly (according to one user) later versions of Windows may behave the same in this regard when you are not on an administrator account.  Please look in C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Oni.  Is there anything there?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Ah! Yes. There is. I was on Windows 7 on an Admin account though. Weird lol. Anyway, it says:

-daodan
-debugger
-key_config
-persist.dat
-startup

So would I just install Oni to the new computer with the disc, then transfer the persist.dat and binkw32.dll?

That is odd, but thanks for letting us know.  Considering how long Vista and 7 have been out, there seems to be a paucity of information about what Oni does under these OSes.  Not sure why we don't hear about this problem more often.

So would I just install Oni to the new computer with the disc, then transfer the persist.dat and binkw32.dll?

Yes to the first two parts.  As far as binkw32.dll, if you're sure it's the Daodan DLL and not the original Bink library, you could copy it over, but if you use the AE, then when you install that, you will get the latest Daodan DLL automatically on the new computer (and there was an update to it recently).

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

That is strange. I think once I figure out how to do more of this stuff, I could make YouTube tutorials for some people and post them on the forum, like how to install the whole binkw32.dll thing and transfer Oni saves/back them up. Anyway I I'll try that out and see if it works. What is AE again anyway?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Um, the Anniversary Edition  tongue  Most people have the Daodan DLL installed as a part of that, but perhaps you installed just the DLL directly?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Oh. I honestly have no clue xD I installed Oni and got it running on my new computer though. But where do I put persist.dat? Do I just replace the old persist.dat? I tried that but the levels didn't load for some reason.

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Hmm.  Yes, you should just have to replace the new persist.dat created by Oni when it runs.  I think you might be better off using a save-game editor on any persist.dat to unlock the levels: http://mods.oni2.net/node/66

I will use that. I'm downloading the stuff now. Will I be able to load certain save points of levels?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

I tried it out, and it seems that it needs to be run as an administrator or else it will fail.  You can right-click the application and choose "Run as administrator".

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Weird...I ran it as an administrator though, and it opened up with MacData.dat and WinData.dat. Do you know what I do from there? xD

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

I believe it just wants you to locate the persist.dat to be edited.

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

Well...kinda. I figured out how to reach my last save point, but how do I confirm my changes? Should I just close Oni Savegame Editor?

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

I can't run the program since I'm away from a Windows PC, but I thought there was a Save button.  Then again, it might just immediately save changes as you make them, so if you don't see a button I'm sure you can just quit.

Re: How To Transfer Save Progress?

I'm still having trouble for some reason. Even if I click Save Changes for the persist.dat, when I open up Oni, it's still only loading the basic stuff for some reason. I'm gonna try something else in the meantime.
