Macs will have MP if Windows gets it.

Make up your minds, Gumby is saying there WON'T be a mac version O_o

Okay, assuming you are right, I'd still like to hear the answer to Tudorage's question: will there be crossplatforming? Will Mac/PC be able to play together in same server? Cause I know lots of ppl here have macs, and I want to beat EVERYONE, I don't want there to be ppl I can't play against sad

His exact words were that there won't be a Mac port.

Yes, Win/Mac will definitely be compatible.

Re: Official Flatline Thread

All I am saying is I am not doing any Mac coding unless someone buys me a Mac. If someone else learns networking and Mac patching (no easy task...), or we magically get access to Oni source, then a Mac version will come. If we have a Mac version, both OSes will work on the same server.

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Here Gumby,
I got you a mac. This is how I test Mac software:

1. Install VirtualBox:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
(It's free)

2. Get the Hazard OSX for x86 Intel Hackintosh ISO:
http://leohazard.com/Download/Snow_Leop … orrent.zip
(It's free)
source: http://leohazard.com/download.html

3. In VirtualBox:
Click "New" and go through the setup, make sure you create a .VHD of at least 20Gigs for your "Hard Drive"
Once you have completed that wizard, select your OSX entry in the VirtualBox list click "settings"
Click the "Storage" tab on the left
Click on the CD-ROM icon in the IDE controller dropdown
Click the little folder icon on the right of the words "CD/Device"
In the CD Images tab, click the "Add" button on top
Add the OSX .ISO you got from leohazard in step 2
Click "Select" and OK to the settings

Now you have the .ISO running as a virtual CD in your Virtual machine.
Click "Start" to boot the machine
It will boot to the OSX setup
You will have to use the OSX disc utilites to create a partition in your .VHD
Then you click install

Funny thing happens next... It just works. I know, I was surprised too.

FAQ:
Yes, it is that easy
Yes, it is free
No, it is not legal unless you pay the $30 to Apple for the Snow Leopard CD

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Other than the fact that I don't have thirty dollars for a Snow Leopard CD, developing in an IDE inside a VirtualBox does not sound fun. smile It would not be getting the frame rates needed for testing properly. And that still doesn't solve the Mac patching problem. I don't have any knowledge of PPC code, and I'm not going to dissect the Intel beta (which I don't have access to...).

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Thanks anyway, FleetStab.  Rest assured, we Mac users have no intention of falling behind Windows Oni when it comes to MP.  Once Flatline is a little more mature, we will develop something on the Mac side that is equivalent and compatible.

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Right-o,
The Virtual MAC works pretty well for me. I suppose it could be a little quirky but if it works in the Virtual machine than it will certainly work on a real Mac! ;-D

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Doors and Consoles syncing really makes you think about cooperative missions. Which could truly add yet another dimension to Oni.

Re: Official Flatline Thread

That's actually what I've been using to test. Loading up a level with two people and seeing how long it takes to crash. Still needs work though.

Re: Official Flatline Thread

LOL, I guess right now it's too much to ask for the new objective of "seeing IF the game crashes" as opposed to WHEN, but all in good time  cool

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Unfortunately the kind of mem-hacking that Gumby's doing is very much trial-and-error in nature, but ultimately all software is crashy before it gets more stable.  You just usually don't get to hear about it when it's still in the crashy stage (or if it's a game in development, they only show you the part that doesn't crash all the time)  cool

Re: Official Flatline Thread

It's not really that much trial and error any more. It just still has some kinds from the parts that were trial and error. wink

Re: Official Flatline Thread

Well, from what I can gather, the latest update on this is in the thread title.

But in all seriousness, I'm pretty sure updates on this are posted from time to time in the mods or AE forum.
