Lately my PC's fan have been making weird noises, but I've overlooked the thing cz it becomes quiet after like 20 mins of turning the PC on ..
so i was testing hayate in game and suddely the PC went off, and something smelled like it burnt or something ..
Thought it would turn on again if i let it rest .. It didn't
i'm guessing the fan of the power supply has not been working properly and thus it got overheated and something melted.
dad used to be an electrician .. He says it's the power supply and he'll fix it ..
though I'm afraid something within the cpu got burnt .. There are 3 fans inside 1 for the power supply .. 1 for he cpu and 1 for the video card .. The power supply one is the one the makes the noises .. But both it and the cpu's fan were pretty overheated.
anyone experienced something similar to this or can guess what has happened .. I've never had a software related computer problem that i couldn't fix .. But i don't know much about hardware.
Could i lose it all for good ?
i'd be devastated .. I have hundreds of songs on there and all my university, school and family photos and university projects in addition to many once a day free programs that i can't get again
but what would be the real loss is i have all my unreleased oni projects there, (new hayate outfits,, hydra, Sarai, Rayman ..which took me days to make) ( and no backups D:

This is most likely a hardware issue, and shouldn't be related to your HDD at all. This is most likely a PSU problem, and you should probably try to replace it to make sure it's not something else. I'm 99% sure it has nothing to do with your storage at all, and all your data should still be intact.

CPUs have overheat protection for a long time now. Your PC would have turned off automatically if the CPU got too hot. So yeah, what TOCS says: Probably PSU issue. But still I'd recommend to learn something of this event and do regular backups of your data

I'm afraid of heat damages or that something starts to burn, that's why I free the fans once a year from dust.

Something is wrong with the fan from starters, i'd clean it every week at times then few days later it'll start making the noise .. Eventually i left it since it goes quiet later .. It turned out a ''transistor'' got burnt in the power supply .. Whatever that is .. The entire power supply unit is too expensive for me right now .. And to just replace the transistor it's hard to find one sold separetly with the same properties ..
so it seems no more oni for me for a while ..

Sorry to hear about the computer

That's quite rare to destroy a transistor. PSUs usually "die" because of electrolytic capacitors get weary after a long-time service, and on some nice day one of them decides it has had enough of that 50 Hz (60 Hz in the U.S.) nonstop switching slavery and explodes (literally).
Can you please write either what kind of PSU do you have or even better tell me what kind of transistor you need??

Unless you have a hardcore rig, you should easily be able to afford a cheap PSU. As long as you don't do anything too heavy a 300 - 400 WATT should do you fine.

@ tocs . Computer hardware and technological stuff is more expensive here than US or Canada .. It's 150 $ .. I don't know if that's considered inexpensive abroad but for me i can't afford it now ..
@Loser .. I'm guessing it was a result of long time overheating that eventually burnt the transistor rather than just dying out with time ..
The label on it says : M0SPEC .. S20C40C .. M571 ..
I'll search other stores tomorrow hopefully I'll find one soon.

Really? I heard from a friend that it was really cheap in Lebanon. If a PSU is 150$, it's around the same as here. Sorry to hear that though. :\

I hope you can find a solution to your problem.

I got a new power supply and I'm back.
You were right TOCS it's less expensive i got a 1800 Watt power supply for 50 $ ... apparently the first guy was trying to rip me off

Wow, which PSU is it? When I said cheap, I didn't think you could get something of that caliber THAT cheap. No seriously, what brand is it?

Well, I think it being HP is a red-flag IMO.

HP printers are alright, but the brand itself is as mainstream quality as MacDonald's. However, that PSU of yours seems to be a scam. Take a look at this: https://www.insight.com/search/ppp.web? … lId=JC651A Either that PSU is heavily used, or it's not what it seems to be.

Holy dooley, for what do you need 1800 watt? 4 grafic cards?
Offline
i don't know .. This is what was sold at several stores for same price there weren't any 500 or 300 ones ..
it's not heavily used, it was packed in nylon and everything and looks new in every way.
However i should mention that maybe in my country it's not from The company itself directly ..
for example .. Here windows 7 is sold for under 10 dollars ..
my oni game cost me 2 dollars bought from the shop. (all games and programs cost like this here)
except for video cards, and iphones i think everything else compared to ur prices is cheap ..
Anyway whether it's genuinely from hp or not i don't care as long as my computer starts
so i'm gonna consider myself lucky
