Duke Nukem Forever

Yeah, so I just finished the game the same day as I installed it; today. Did anyone else try it? Personally I think it was pretty kick ass! smile Hail to the king, baby!

Yeah, it was released yesterday in Europe. I believe it's arrival in North America will be like the 14th or something.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

So, do you think that DNF is a 2001-2003 styled game? I expect a gameplay style from that period, so I'm seriously wondering whether to buy it or not. FEAR 2 got bad reviews too, but acctually, it's a 2002 game with 2009 graphics. And it is very good.

Oh, and does DNF support mods?

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem Forever feels a little bit like the first Halo game, because of the health system. You've this "Ego" bar, which when depleted, recharges after a few seconds. The game is not a pure arena style shooter, like the previous titles, so you can't just Quake-style a whole room with enemies, usually.

Frankly I don't know about mods, but if it isn't already integrated somehow, I'm sure they'll add it some time.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

So it's finally forever. I should really get that game.
So "when it's done" actually meant "some day".

I never really played any of the previous titles, it's before my time really. I was in, back when it was Quake and Unreal Tournament. (1999 - 200x) And I'm 16 as well. >.<"

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

So anyways, I'm soon to be 22, I've played all the Duke Nukem titles, from DN1 trough DN3D, and now tried this one. I gotta say, it's pretty cool, like really unexpectedly awesome. They did a great job making it worth the wait. Duke Nukem's a great series of dark humor, violence and tits. One of my favorite series.

Duke Nukem Forever's only flaw is the 5 minute loading before each level. It feels great, maybe it's called "forever" because each level loads forever, I don't know. But overall they really did a kickass job as always.

(I'm saying "they" because after all those years 50 different developers switched onto working on this game, I'm not sure who did most of the work.)

What a bland statement, really. hmm

@ SektorZ: After I went for an SSD, everything became utterly fast. Loading times were somewhat below 10 secs most of the time. tongue

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

The levels are badly designed, the "jokes" are horrible, it tries really too hard to be offensive and just takes it too far, there is no character to the game, it's all evidence of George Broussard's "oh my god game x has this so duke nukem forever must have it too!" attitude so you see a horrible mish-mash of common game elements mixed into old-school 90's shooters (regenerating health, two weapon limit) which does not work at all, the game tries too hard to say something and relies much more on the following of Duke Nukem and the sullied development history of this game, Duke looks like an idiot when he jumps, the visuals are of a low-budget game, or a game made years ago by a crappy developer, there are a lot of mind-numbing areas you trudge through instead of giving you non-stop action.

Duke Nukem Forever is a terrible game.

Happy?

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

I think people over estimate it due to nostalgia.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

But did you really expect something original? I know it took a heck of a long time to actually get released, but the game has been through a lot of developers and different hands, which may cause your disliking of the game. It's really impossible to bring back a pure old school Duke Nukem game, that'll actually sell. It would be only nostalgic fans buying it. They have to follow the game evolution, and just implement what is in now, mixed with some old school elements.

Though I agree with you on some points, I don't find the game terrible. There's actually a few levels where you've to think, instead of gunning down hordes of enemies. They were kinda annoying at times, but I think the game is overall decent considering the struggles it had. But you know, it's all just opinions and I just wanted yours. tongue

Re: Duke Nukem Forever

The whole series is supposed to be an over the top hero, could be said to be a parody of modern day characters in games. Duke takes that and runs another 5 miles with it. It is hyper-realistic to a point where it is not believable. As I see it, it is supposed a joke at game heros, a hero that generally does the right thing, but for the "wrong" reasons. A dirty hero is not something we are used to, we like to see straight edge heros that don't deviate or appear to be corrupted by their own whims. I have not played yet (should be sometime today) I am not expecting a super awesome revolutionary game. I am expecting a slightly dated game that proves that it can have a cheap laugh and give me some entertainment and fun while playing. I don't play games because they look nice or because they have introduced a revolutionary gameplay concept, I like them because they are fun.
