Hello all, just joined earlier today. I've been browsing this community for a few days now, and I feel like putting some of my skills to good use.
I am starting a re-texture project to replace all of the console icons throughout the game. Other texture packs have done a great job making certain levels HD, but the fuzzy pixelated symbols have been bothering me.

Woot! I started on this once, then I forgot about it. If I were you, I'd brighten up the colors a bit (make the red in the first console a pure 255/0/0 red), so it looks more like a monitor.

If I were you, I wouldn't listen to Gumby Pure colors will look bad. Anyway, I like what you've done so far, so keep up the good work.

Good to have the feedback!
I have only run into one issue thus far. The alarm console and the Lock/Hand console (end of Airport) have a 2 frame animation. When I extract the textures I only get the first frame - so both of those symbols are static since I can't find the second frame. Any ideas on how to extract (and then package of course) an animated texture?

Yeah pure colors won't look good, as a Mugen leecher I have noticed bright colors can ruin a stage or character palette

Looks pretty nice.
Circus Afro, Circus Afro, Polka Dot, Polka Dot!

There should be two textures for each frame. I remember scrolling past them while working on my stuff.

so it looks more like a monitor.
I've always interpreted these as holographic displays.

If you have more than I do, I extracted something wrong. Here's what I mean

To get both textures, you would extract the TXMP as .xml. Then to convert back to .oni files, you will use the .xml file.
To save you time, here are the files: http://edt.oni2.net/AE_Files/ConsoleTextures.zip

I tried them before and they looked just fine.

Regardless, they will still emit their own light.

Alright, progress report :
- I have about 40% of the symbols finished.
- Ditching transparency due to visibility issues with certain symbols
- Some of the symbols have been altered for the better, which brings me to the next stage in the modification
Doors!
I will be re-texturing doors as well to fit the symbols that go with them. Some of the symbols needed an update, also reworking to be reversible as seen here...

I also started reworking "Warehouse" but I'll put that on hold till this one is finished

Nice little preview!
You might wanna check out some of the other Warehouse texture projects. There has been quite a few already.
The Training Level HD texture package included textures for the Warehouse.

Ditching transparency? What visibility issues?

Early on the transparency for simplistic symbols looked cool - but for others the effect becomes distracting, where it looks like you're seeing double.
This is what I have and will keep:
In theory it would be like this:
Here is what it actually ends up looking like:

Ahh. Does it still look bad when you just give it a transparent background?

I'm not sure I follow. Do you mean a translucent background?

-Updated OP Examples-
-Only a handful of symbols left!
-10 Doors completed! (unfortunately there's 90 left)
-The weekend is over! (So expect updates to lessen until more free time is had)
Still to come: What good is a high quality display with a crappy computer to have it on?
-Consoles are next on the list of things to do!
..and now I sleep
