Re: HD Mod

I'll do my best to fix this, but then I've to make a lot of new textures. Because I started with this update 2009, and my ways how to update textures were not very good and I extracted all textures back to .png, and I recognized that this "Problem" is nearly on every texture. We'll see how I can fix this.

Back to your tip: Actually, I don't know the name of the texture you meant, so maybe you know where I can find it. wink

Re: HD Mod

I hope you continue with this.
Tried out the textures you already uploaded and they look great.

It would be good if you can find some help then the work load wouldn't be as much.

Re: HD Mod

Hi IronyTaken,

Of course I continue with this. But right now I'm reworking my older textures. Look:

On this screenshot you can see, that the floor and the pillars are cracked a little.

oni2011-03-2820-16-05-ku9k.png

And on this screen you can see, that the floor really looks like carpet. (I love that texture big_smile)

oni2011-03-2820-17-49-2uvp.png

So I'm reworking a lot of these. But I want to ask Bozzman to add his great Console-Signs update to my texture package.
I reworked the signs and doors too, but his are looking a lot better wink

If you want to, I'm uploading a second demo for you. That's no problem! It's good to see my current progress and then it's for you a little easier to tell me, what you don't like. So tell me if you want me to upload a demo and I'll do this wink

Re: HD Mod

Well I am going to do an HD recording of the first level (after the tutorial).

I don't mind checking out your second demo package.
It would be easier to tell me which levels you added new textures to.
Then I could check those out.

Re: HD Mod

I added some textures in every level, but I don't upgrade the whole level. The Warehouse is done, the 2nd level too. The 3rd and 4th level, the 5th... And the next levels are only a bit retextured.

Re: HD Mod

You've got good initiative.

Some Helpful Hints - try to stay away from Photoshop filters and Illustrators "Live Trace"

Try messing around with Layer Styles and Blending modes

I'll throw in more advice once I get further in your pack.

Re: HD Mod

Thanks for your tips, but the only filter I use in photoshop is the Displace Filter or some filters to give glass a little more glassy look wink And I never used Illustrator, I don't even know if this is really a program wink

Thanks for testing my mod wink

Re: HD Mod

The method you used to create your console display just reminded me of Illustrators Live trace - regardless It looks like a Automated function to vectorize the original display symbols.

In this case given the simplicity of the symbols, recreating from scratch is not too difficult.

So what programs do you use?

Re: HD Mod

Ah yes, the console signs... I used Vector Magic to vectorize. I know, it's not a good idea, but they look better then before. But yours are looking a lot better, so I wanted to use yours.
Yes, you're right, it's not too difficult to create them from scratch, but I really want to know how you did that small shadows, as example on this "Turn-Off-Laser"-signs.

The floor texture At the start of the warehouse was created from scratch. I wanted to make the textures looking better, I did not so much at the sings.

Can you tell me what you did? I don't want to redo my signs, because I want the users of my mod to use your mod too.
But maybe the way you did this may be useful for me to do this with my textures wink

And I only use Photoshop for making the textures looking better wink Of course with some "Detail textures", and with a good transfer-mode, some scratches using these layer-options (don't remember the name wink) and a filter texturizer-filter (for creating the glass effect on the fire extinguisher.)

I used the "Burn" and "Dodge" tool with a soft brush.

Example: flat area of color ------- burn in some shadow ------- dodge in some highlight

*and if your dont want to use your doors and displays, remove them - it'll save 150MB in your package size.*

Re: HD Mod

Cool! Thanks for your help! It looks great, although it's only a circle big_smile

I tried it out. And with a 50%-grey layer it works, but if I want to use red or green, there is no effect!

Yes, you're right, I'll delete my displays, but I've got a lot of doors, which haven't got these icons, so I'll delete only the displays.

Thanks for your helpful tips smile

Be sure to mess around with the settings (highlights, midtones, shadows) and your exposure (0-100%) depending on the original color tone.

If it doesn't come out the way you want it, make a new layer above. Then paint in darker tones, and use blending modes and opacity to get the amount of shading you desire.

Trial and error! Learn through experience!
