Flatline Alpha

As I haven't shown anything new to the Oni community lately, I figure I might as well release this for the half a dozen or so people on this forum who would be inclined to follow this.

What you need:
1. Two computers running the Edition [This is no longer correct. Use the DLL at http://www.gumby.oni2.net/daodan/binkw32.dll -I]
2. Some sort of networked connection (wired is preferred)

Preparation:
1. Make sure both copies of AE are running the same packages [or just use vanilla Oni. -I]
2. delete Edition\GameDataFolder\IGMD\state
3. Run Oni (windowed mode)
3.5 If you get a REALBINK error, download this and put it next to the other dll: http://gumby.oni2.net/AE/realbink.dll
4. Load up Regional State Building on both computers
5. Activate dev mode (press F1, type x, close the menu)
6. Press F6, this kills off any random AI currently in the game
7. Type chr_draw_all_characters = 1 in the console (press ` to open the console), press enter.

You have two choices at this point. Use the master server or use a Direct IP Connection.

Using the master server [Mariusnet is no longer available. -I]
1. Go to http://www.mariusnet.com/ and register an account. Make sure to validate your email address.
2. When ingame, after completing the above steps use the command login username password replacing the username and password with the ones you registered with mariusnet.
3. If you wish to host a game, use the command host
4. If you wish to join a game, you must wait until a game appears on this list. It will be labeled something like 1. Gumby's Game. Use the command join # where # is the number next to the game you wish to join.
Warning: Flatline does not currently check to see if you are on the same level as the host you are connecting to. Watch out!

Direct IP Connection
On one computer (host):
Type in host in the console, press enter. Note the ip it mentions.

On the other (client):
Type in connect "host's ip", press enter. The quotes are important!

Notes:
When you host, Flatline will attempt to forward the port 27777. This might not work. If you host and players still can't connect to you, try disabling unused connections in the Network Connections area in the Control Panel.

You can add bots by using the addbot command.

You can switch classes by using the command bind o to block then pressing block.

Re: Flatline Alpha

You're a god Gumby! I can't believe this actually happening! I can't wait to try this!  I guess it's LAN only? Or would it work with Hamachi or so? Because I don't have anybody to play with atm. then. tongue Anyways, really - thank you for this release man!

Re: Flatline Alpha

It will work across regular internet, but it probably won't be a good experience. I was previously beta testing with Leus, who lives something like 130 miles away from me, and it was ok. Lag compensation and packet tracking aren't in this version, sorry. But it works just fine over LAN.

Re: Flatline Alpha

I would, but I would assume there would be more complications over the internet then over a more stable LAN network.

lol @ that picutre XD

EDIT: I believe there's already a post with a map where the locations of most of the Oni forum frequenters are located

Re: Flatline Alpha

It's probably easier to look at someone's profile to see where they are, than to find them in the Map thread.  Although many people don't fill in their locations.

Re: Flatline Alpha

I'd test this if I had two computers with ONI... But it seems great by the videos. This is a major advance in the community!

Re: Flatline Alpha

Would I be able to run two instances of Oni at the same time, and test it that way?

I don't think so.

Anyway, anyone tried Flatline already? Some new video footage perhaps?

Re: Flatline Alpha

Sorry, I was occupied recently... Working on my editor and other stuff. If I get time, I'll test it.

Also, what makes you think my mother got a computer? And what makes you think I have a mother? (lol)
My mom's computer is completely full. Even if I managed to get a pen-drive with ONI and my current mods, I couldn't install it there. I will have to do some maneuvering if I decide to give it a try.

Oh and I was working on my editor's thread, in wich you didn't even post anything. You helped me a whole lot. Lol.

Re: Flatline Alpha

Wait a minute... I'm not seeing any existing "binkw32.dll".  And I'm currently unaware as to how to play Oni in windowed mode.

This is a windows-only thing right now, isn't it?

Re: Flatline Alpha

You should download the lastest Daodan DLL, as far as I know, it is responsible for the window stuff.

@ oxe161 - I meant I have no near computers capable of playing it, and that I would play it later. Then I said that this was a great advance, but then you just said "facepalm" and some other annoying stuff.

Re: Flatline Alpha

I would use the Daodan, but I'm on a mac, so I don't think it's compatible.
