Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

Terry Pratchett's books are one of my favourites. And Star Wars novels, of course smile

Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

Meh its hard for me to find good books. My school library is 60% non-fiction and 20% fiction. So finding a good book can be a bitch. The only books i have been interested in lately are those Alex Rider books by Anthony Horrowitz. But I'm gonna try to check out some of the books you guys said.

Inheritance Cycle, Dragons in our Midst, Pendragon, almost anything by Stephen Lawhead, Calvin & Hobbes, Storm Thief, & a whole lot more.

I only liked a few of the star wars books however.  Movies, yes.

Hmm, someone stole that from the game magazine I subscribe to.  But it is awesome.  My favorite part is "This is pretty serious. I think I'll take a break." --> Return months later... --> "I don't remember who these characters are or what these abilities do. I quit."

Stormthief was a really good book! I wanted to read Pendragon but never got around to it.

Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

Dragonback series was pretty good, by Timothy Zahn, guy who wrote some of the star wars books

You're serious? And you never heard about his most famous work - Solaris, too?

Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

It seems to me, as a long-time sci-fi fan, that few Americans have heard of Lem, much less read him.  I'm in the "heard of, but not read" category myself, but he sounds like an interesting writer.  Speaking of Russian writers (well, Russian descent), I always recommend Asimov, especially his work before the '80s.

Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

I read Asimov's Caves of Steel, did it for my grade 10 book summative project, and it was quite a good novel, a very realistic view of the future.

Where is Lem from? It's possible Lem just isn't as popular where I am as it is where you are tongue Might look him up tho.

But yeah, any *true* sci-fi fans should really read Caves of Steel, just to look at his vision of what a future world might look like

Re: Random Blabber Topic-Current: Caturdays

Lem is polish. I thought everyone knows him because his books were translated into 41(!) languages. From what I know he criticized american s-f literature(except Dick) and - what's funny - he became the honorary member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America organization. Anyway, I really recommend him, you won't be disappointed.

Better argument against it: you likely don't have the recommended living room size. wink

Haha.  I like how MS specifically represents an iPhone as an offending device, not just some generic phone.
