Penny Arcade Oni

Any dedicated gamer out there will know of Penny Arcade, but I don't know if all of you have seen the strip concerning Oni... it always makes me laugh, so I though I'd share it.

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

Bah!
I was sure someone must have submitted it by now, I just didn't bother looking too far back.
The one with Master Chief is great, though.  I wonder who Konoko is referring to?  Barabus, perhaps?  I doubt she'd be sneaking up on Mukade...

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

A Backbreaker is worth 70 HP. In Kon's story there are five, so: 350+ HP
(although technically speaking we should allow for Fisherman Syndrome)
With 375 HP (+regeneration), Barabas is a very good candidate indeed smile
Muro is out unless overpowered (400). Mutant Muro (406) can't be thrown.

For the record, Mukade has the fattest health of all Oni bosses: 500 HP.
Also, "slipping behind the guy" can refer to melee skills, not stealth.
Care to backbreak Mukade (or Barabas) 5 times in a row, anyone?

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

In OTA the bosses may be distracted or incapacitated by your teammates (improved melee patterns should fix this).
I meant the original boss fights: 2 for Barabas, 1 for Mukade. We could make a montage with that DevianArt pic...

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

Well, if not for the Earthquaker, that'd happen all the time against Barabas too. That's what the Willow Kick is for.

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

The willow kick deals 10 HP damage, so you can only use it 2 times in the 5-backbreaker scenario against a 375-HP Barabas tongue
How would you suggest to improve/fix the Earthquaker? If it wasn't so überabominable, Barabas wouldn't be Barabas, would he?

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

I'd suggest that he actually be _hittable_ by melee attacks on his way up...Otherwise, you can literally spam the Earthquaker forever even against jump-glitchers.

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

Well, you can spam the Earthquaker forever, but Barabas usually doesn't, and neither did the author of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADfFa063Uh8   So maybe a special gauge for superspecials would be the ultimate fix?
That said, your suggestion is acknowledged. It's totally feasible, but I think I'll wait until binary mods are more portable.

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

A special gauge would be interesting, but that causes its own issues.

Re: Penny Arcade Oni

The OTA scripts released so far don't do anything to saved games.
Some other scripts do, but in the case of OTA there was no need.

So just "uninstall" OTA and restore the original logic for the level.
Then the level should play OK, complete with all your save points.

The next OTA releases will probably use save slots for convenience.
The Flag Viewer mini-script already does overwrite SPs, so beware.

More generally, any single-player mod out there will overwrite SPs.
(except OTA, as I said; respawns are random, so SPs are useless)

If your saved games are dear to you, just back up Oni\persist.dat
Personally I never bother, since I'm quite used to messing up SPs.
