Re: Ghost in the Shell

I really liked the Ghost in the Shell game for PS2.  I still haven't seen the series and the gameplay was good enough to keep me interested in it.

Re: Ghost in the Shell

I found the DVD in my local library and just watched this movie for the first time.  Pretty impressive, nice combination of animation with computer-type effects.  You can definitely see the basis of inspiration for the style of Oni.  DVD label says "unrated, suggested 17+" I'll have to look for the 2.0 version.

Re: Ghost in the Shell

Oshii, the director of the two movies, doesn't always flow real well while storytelling but he always knocks futuristic ultraviolence out of the park.

Cases in point.

i would have really liked to have had this kind of 'feel' for the armed combat in Oni.

not really a netflix expert or endorser, just one source where you can (legally) download movies (do they work outside of USA?).  I might start using Netflix when they release the player for Wii consoles.

Also, check your local library, if they have any DVD/VHS movies.

another bit of trivia, one of the songs in the American-release version is by members of U2 with Brian Eno
"One Minute Warning" also appears on a CD called Passengers

Re: Ghost in the Shell

re-run last night on the Conan O'Brien show: Conan and Andy stop by the Manga studio and do some voice over work to a scene from Ghost in the Shell, this is the only web clip I could find, not very good quality though.

Funny guy, I hope he returns to TV.

Yeah, I remember seing that, it's funny stuff.  Seems like his humor was a little too quirky for the mainstream.  He should find a place for himself on the Web where he'd be more appreciated.

Re: Ghost in the Shell

Are you in the mainstream?  The mainstream audience for that time slot was 35-55 year olds who come home from their full-time job and watch TV until they pass out (somehow racking up 4 hours a day of TV time).  They're not even mentally present enough to follow what Conan's talking about at that hour of the night.
