Re: ONiSketch

Hehe, may I ask what's the fundamental difference between the three threads you started recently? smile

You are welcome to release those under the Serious Konoko label. I came up with the podcast idea, but I don't mean to be the only poster for it.
Your sketches totally fit the idea of SK, even if my stuff is a bit different. BTW, ZDLO and I are working on a combat-oriented episode set in Chapter 12.

And there are some other projects of more or less polished music videos. Most of those are more than a little ambitious, but I feel like spreading the ideas around, just in case someone finds the time and motivation for those.
Usually the video is supposed to be intertwined with the subject of the song. And it involves clever recombination of gameplay and cutscene footage. Cutscenes can be usual ones, but mostly they'll be hacked/scripted/edited.
As for gameplay, the criterion is that it has to be somehow unusual, too. Of course we know Oni's cutscenes by heart (or do we? wink ) but we're also very familiar with the back of Konoko's head. Aren't backbreakers familiar? smile
Your subtitles make a great job turning an otherwise "dry" display of skill into an actually entertaining "sketch". That's a good point. It's also nice how you seek to highlight "untold" aspects of Oni's story (Muro's inner struggle etc).
My suggestion (or actually, the way I'd do it and the way I've been doing it so far) is not to overuse video effects (they tend to look, how should I say, awful in 320x240). Also, it's a bad idea to overlook the role of the soundtrack.
If you want to show Muro's nature, and then oppose it to Mai's you don't want the same groovy riff to be playing all the way through. Musical changes of mood, or fitting lyrics would help you to convey your idea better than video.
(Actually, I failed to identify the color cycling as having anything to do with Muro's inner struggle; maybe because it wasn't supplemented by audio; then again, I would regard a struggle as bipolar, and I'm not even sure Muro has one).

Ideas so far, in a roughly chronological order of emergence:

A highlight of Oni's boss fights (and possibly some many-on-one battles), set to Superbeast by Rob Zombie. High points: Barabas, Mukade, Mutant Muro, overpower, battle against ninja bots and "the whole Syndicate". The trivially badass side of the Daodan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QZVSLWV9BU
A not-too-serious tribute to Mukade set to Cure For The Itch by Linkin Park. High points: Regional State Building and Rooftops from Mukade's point of view; various teleporting techniques (Dev Mode); on the whole rather sophisticated sync with the breakbeat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gbum-dJTuI
A set of "easy" videos combining OTA or Renegade gameplay with song-fitting cutscenes set to virtually any song from Hybrid Theory from Linkin Park (maybe a mix would be even better). High points not clear, mostly lyric-fitting snapshots of the storyline.
A not-so-sophisticated highlight of the current features of DemOni set to any decently bouncy song (Oni-like techno preferred, with a touch of disco: maybe something by Kanno). High points: new cheats, new weapons, new AI, OTA, glass hacks, etc.
A remake of the "Don't mess with dynamire" video in a more accurate Benny Hill style, with some basic camera work (possibly some scripting/hacking) and dramatic speedup. High points: Benny Hill running, maybe in a few different levels; dashing AI. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcjbWhRFwZo
A serious, nihilistic statement about Konoko's relation to Oni (sorta like Neo with the matrix) and entertainment in general, set to ONLY by Nine Inch Nails. High points: Konoko's denial of the virtual violence and losses in Oni; breaking the Matrix apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0u0AG_floQ
An exquisite montage of combat flashes and explosions in extreme slow motion (flashes blooming like flowers), set to Explode by the Cardigans. High points: weapon particles, boss particles, bombs, massive battles, grenade jumps etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fePZXFpO9iE
An action-packed overview of Mai's "inner fire" (Daodan and the more "human" berserk behavior, for example with weapons) set to Feuer Frei by Rammstein. High points: Konoko ravaging through hordes of enemies in overpower and with heavy weapons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxLiPvslxWM
A very very sophisticate highlight of the ultimate features of DemOni set to Yoko Kanno's GET9. Oni Team Arena, new cheats and lots of scripted scenes (dancing, rapping, etc). High points: OTA again, new cheats, new weapons; dancing scripts smile   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W02j-LxAEI

I'm sure I forgot some. I ought to write the ideas and rough storyboards down somewhere (well, on the wiki, duh) but somehow I didn't find the time for that so far... Anyhow, you're welcome to pick from that. Since you asked for ideas...

Behold the power of that which is yet unborn! For the swirling images that flow forth from the Chrysalis are only a shadow of the sleeper's true power.

Re: ONiSketch

OniTribute is a generic action video
OniSketch is a new idea: an action sketch supplemented dialogue that helps tell as story.

I thought both deserve separate posts.

I wanted to hear more about this combat oriented episode 12. Is it just like what I am doing? What is
this konoko label thing and where could I see some samples of what you are talking about.

Re: ONiSketch

"I posted two threads to get the word around." Sounds like mini-spam, but here it's OK. Anyway, I saw four smile

"OniTribute is a generic action video" ... OK now, what was wrong with the MOVIES thread? hmm

"Muro's music is dark while Konoko is upbeat." Indeed, my bad. I must have been confused by both themes spanning several chars, and the upbeat starting while Muro was still on screen. Or maybe it's just that I didn't connect with the dark theme at all: I honestly didn't remember it after watching the vid.
I read everything on these forums and I've followed the quiproquo between paradox and you. I also commented on some of your claimed goals in my post up there. I find the concept interesting, even if I may disagree on rendering details (in particular the video filters). You're definitely bringing some fresh air.
The combat oriented Chapter 12 was indirectly inspired by ZDLO's vidmaster style and Tracker60's speed run. So that it's not "just another gameplay video", I want to explore one of the dark sides of the Daodan, in particular how it affects Konoko's perceptions and actions. Also, reality in that video is dual.
Basically, like in a few other levels, Konoko can choose to fight or go stealth, and since she is rogue here it means to kill or not to kill her former allies. They've already killed Shinatama, and they've branded Konoko an enemy of the state. Is that enough for her to decimate the TCTF? Maybe not...
But even if she doesn't actually kill anybody, she can't help thinking of it. And the Daodan makes her daydreams "bloody real". Hence the double reality during the first savepoints of Chapter 12. As a consequence of Kerr's talk and death, these realities merge: "You'll pay for that. You'll all pay."
The video will follow the progress of the original mission, with well-timed switching between both realities during the first savepoints. Rage, alienation and loss of control will build up towards the end. Cutscenes and such will be dramatically accelerated, spliced and agremented with extra stuff.
The soundtrack I chose for that one you can listen to here: http://geyser.oni2.net/audio/music/misc … _vihod.mp3  It's nice 7-beat rock with an "alien" theme building up and a Hurry-like theme towards the end. The intro vocals will be replaced with Oni intro quotes.

As for "Serious Konoko", it's the name I gave to my Oni-oriented "podcast" on YouTube. It's featured in the Oni group, which you already know. You can also search YouTube for "serious konoko".
"Serious Konoko" is also the name of my modding activity on Planet Serious. I'm ripping all of Oni's data and feeding it into Serious Engine 2. So far so good: driveable vehicles are already there wink

EDIT: I know what video project I forgot... A highlight of Mai's and Muro's schizophrenia, with a touch of Mukade's wisdom. Carousel by Linkin Park: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KUHIl_k9sw
And there's always Crawling, of course. That one is special: http://oni.bungie.org/community/forum/v … php?id=144  BTW, added links to soundtrack ideas in the post above.

Re: ONiSketch

I never post at forums before so I don't know the rules. Me and paradox just had  misunderstanding that's all. Don't even worry about that.

I like to see your video.
