trouble with the game fireing up, please help!

Hi to all!

I'm a big fan of Oni, even after how old it is (damn shame they didn't make a sequel...) so my problem is that I wondered the other day that i should scrach out that old cd and have a go, you know how fast do i complete it and like that, but I bought a new machine just before xmas (asus p5pl2, dual 2.8, 2x512mb, and a eax1600pro 128mb) and the game wont load up, it starts and blackout, it's not a deep freeze, it respawns imideatly to some keys, but it exits... any idea on fixing this, our I can just forget about this game?

More details needed...
Is "that old cd" an original copy of Oni?
What OS, GFX card and driver again?
What exactly happens when you start Oni?
Could we have a look at your startup.txt (it's in your Oni folder)?

that old cd is a fako, its an oni.exe on the cd basicly that contains everything and isntalls it just like the normal cd (used to have an original copy but thats history). I had an older machine that had the game running just fine, so i guess its not the version thats cousing trouble here. Os is xp, the tweaked xp executable is the default in the install, directx 9.0c, the driver is something that was with the card, it rips doom3 and these games apart, but this... The game starts, i hear a small sound like the first intro (the one with the asteroid) would start but no picture nohing right from the start, ctrl alt del and thats it.

Sounds uncommon/weird so far.
Rename/remove GameDataFolder/intro.bik and repeat (observations + startup.txt)
Whatever your "tweaked" EXE is (not sure), try THIS one instead. Report.

that's the one i called tweaked, the very same size. anyway earlier today i tried to remove the intro and it worked fine after that, i see you told the same, thanks for the help anyway

A-ha... Same EXE as everybody, and the BINK videos fail to play?
Could you compare the EXE files by content? Thanks in advance.
Besides the executable (or the BINK file itself) the only matter with movie playback could be this:
  there should be a binkw32.dll in your Oni folder for the movies to play
(then again, Oni usually complains about a missing DLL with an error message...)
It's OK if if you don't want to figure out what exactly the problem was, of course smile
(heck, who needs the intro movie anyway?) (glad you got it to work, BTW, have fun)
