Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

Hi, I tried to install the AE Mod and this is what happens:

oniscreencap1.jpg

oniscreencap2.jpg

And I end up with 3 new additions to my sub-folder here:

oniscreencap3.jpg

Is there something I need to download and install or extract first?  Because I'm pretty sure pages full of "Bad command or file name" error messages are not the expected norm.

EDIT:
I checked out the step0004.log file, it said this:

Which OS is that? It looks like the Edition is not compatible with your system.

I'm using a the rather antiquated Windows ME, it appears that the dos box doesn't like processing variables.  All the commands use the correct syntax as best as I can tell, but the result is the variable name and not the variable value that is being used in the FOR loop commands.

Oh boy. : / I don't know the differences between ME and XP shell scripts offhand. I'll look it up tonight. The next AE won't use such evil things, BUT we may run into other problems. I don't know how compatible my GUI is.

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

The problem looks more serious than that, it looks like the patching software (xdelta3.exe) is linking to an API that doesn't exist on Windows ME.

So, is there any advice or alterations to the mod you can suggest?  Besides advising me to stop being such a cheap bastard and fork out on a new computer with a more up to date OS. wink

Well, microsoft is doing free trial of win7 through may 2010, iirc. What are your system specs? Win7 runs on pretty much anything, if you have the space. That should tide you over until you can get a new computer. Though it can be a bit advanced to install it without formatting your hard drive.

Don't go to seven, it's more light than vista but stills much more heavy than xp.

If your pc run ME, it will run Windows 2000 for sure, that is for me the best OS that microsoft did, it works with Aniversary because I did it with a pc with this windows.

You may also try windows xp, if it run in your system.

Regards.

(there are also wrappers to have nt api in windows 98 and possible in me, do some search in google if you are interested)

Script, I'm pretty sure it runs on anything XP runs on (except maybe at extreme low end, which it sounds like he is on). I ran it on a laptop with a 1.8Ghz processor and a half a gig of RAM.

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

I recompiled the xdelta3.exe without any dependencies on Windows XP functions (http://rossy.oni2.net/files/xdelta3.exe) i'm not sure what to do about the batch script though.

Rossy ftw.

It appears that on DOS systems, you can't easily nest FOR loops. sad

i get lots of error and other messages on my game while it plays- it doesnt really affect the performance, but its just hard to see what's going on in half the screen. i wonder if anyone has had the same problem?

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

That's normal - i case you play in developer mode. Try opening the diary [F1] and type thedayismine or x to deactivate it.
Post a screenshot of these errors if you think things are messed up. Check key_config.txt in your "edition" folder. I don't have a F13 key on Windows so I usually change it to 3. "bind 3 to screenshot"

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

it usually happens even without developer mode. i disabled developer mode too and it still comes up with the messages. its not major though, so far i see no problems in the OTA (though for a while it wouldnt allow me to enable any cheats but strangly that problem has gone away now).
the messages are usually saying that random bits of info are missing like 'this move was not found in that character class' or other event-related things that actually seem to have no affect. hmm

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

oh and about screenshots, on my pc F13 works as being the button that says 'Print SCR / SysRq' (i.e. the print screen button is denoted by F13 so you don't need to change it to F3, at least in my case). hope that saves you the effort in future. smile

Re: Oni AE install generates lots of error messages.

Well, all I can say is that those messages are not supposed to scroll up the screen unless Dev Mode is on.  Also, paradox is referring to setting a key for Oni's screenshot capture function.
