Retexturing Project

I think the textures of the standard characters, are a bit... messed.
So I got the idea to retexture all the classes (strikers, furys, tankers etc.).

Here's a screenshot of an easy striker which shows before and after: difference1.png

Re: Retexturing Project

Tip: Increasing the texture size to 512x512 will make it look even better.

But this sort of project is greatly appreciated.

Re: Retexturing Project

Thanks.

I think if you just rezize the picture to 512x512 it won't make any difference.. Or will it?

Re: Retexturing Project

You can add more detail.

A la:
a2c866ed6a2d.png

There is a guy from Onimia who has been doing faces.

Of course, it takes much longer this way (you have to pretty much remake the texture from scratch)

Re: Retexturing Project

This looks incredible, according to Bungie, they have been to lazy. lol

I guess it will take years for me just to get a little close on making from scratch.. But anyways, I'll continue my little project..

Re: Retexturing Project

You wouldn't be really making it from scratch.

1. Open the texture in Photoshop\GIMP
2. Resize it to 512x512
3. Create a new layer, with 75% opacity
4. Trace over the lines with better looking lines. smile
5. Do other...erm...texturing stuff.
6. When everything is done, set your new texture to 100% opacity and save as TGA or PNG

My recommendation is to focus on the body textures for now, they are an easier place to start out on.

Re: Retexturing Project

One way to deal with the dithering is to enlarge the original image to 256 or 512.  Then duplicate the layer.  Use gaussian blur on the bottom layer to smooth out the dithering.  On the top layer, use a layer mask.  On the areas that needs to be smooth, paint with black on the layer mask, to reveal the blurred layer underneath.

Re: Retexturing Project

Here is an example using the Striker's head, enlarged to 256x256.  On the left you can see the dithering.  On the right I used 2 layers, 1 layer had Gaussian blur until the dithering was gone, then I used the layer mask to reveal the areas I wanted to keep sharp.

Re: Retexturing Project

I only have the TXMP for Shinatama:

shinatamatxmp.jpg

At some point I might be writing the artist, so maybe we can get the other TXMPs he's done.

Hey, Severed!  I have been admiring your work from afar for a while.  I am amazed at how professional it is.  I hadn't seen Muro before, very nice work.  If only the 3D models had smoother lines in the faces, eh?  Your textures deserve better models ^_^

Severed:  Those are absolutely great textures. Can we have your permission to use them in AE?

Indeed, we will credit you and everything.

EDIT: I'm curious, do you have a Fury varient with the headband?

Re: Retexturing Project

Raaaah this is so gooooood !!! smile I've been waiting for new textures like this for a LONG time, man!

Ok, to use them in Konoko Payne: in windowed mode:
- run the game
- open the console, type "developer" to enable developer mode
- now press F1 to get back cursor control and enable texture viewer
- select "Textures->Select texture" in the menu
- choose the image you want to change, for example Konoko's head (ignore all the warnings/errors you get). It should appear in the corner.
- select "Textures->Load picture". Choose the new picture. Enjoy.

This is just amazing. Happy smile

Sure, I made them for everyone who wants to use them.

Perhaps someone will ever make a new character models for game.
Maybe even me, but I am a little slowpoke, so it's all in the far, far future -_- ...

Gumby wrote:

Not yet, but I hope to make the individual faces for each of the nine.

Something of the following update:

Re: Retexturing Project

I believe it was 3D Studio Max.  At least, that's what was used to make the levels.  Nowadays in the community, any program that can handle the Collada (.dae) format is used to make models.
