Modifying damage values and effects.

I'm assuming that's hex editing territory.

Has anyone blazed a trail into this area of modification?

Personally I'd like to play around and tweak some melee combat values, and possibly the effects.

I also find Barabus' earth quaker to be rather annoying. I wouldn't mind disabling that move.

Nope, XML. Loser would be the man to talk to about melee combat.

You might want to read this page:
http://wiki.oni2.net/OBD_talk:TRAM

It talks in terms of hex editing, but you can also edit the TRAM in .xml

Hi Burnov,
looks like you have similar opinion on Oni's combat system. Great, but unfinished. We can join forces if you wish. But let me warn you, I have lost one appren..errr..fellow combat system modder already... ^_^'

Re: Modifying damage values and effects.

I'm certainly willing to give it a shot.

However I think at first I'm going to start with modest goals.

Mainly I think the big problem with Oni's combat is the "stop-start" nature of the fighting.

It would honestly be a lot better if some of the more powerful moves engaged blocking characters into a guard stun sequence, or knocked them back without doing as much damage.

My main focus at first will be modifying the bigger guys to be more competitive.

The striker elites and the elite swat guys for example. They move so slowly and yet some of their most powerful moves are simply blocked. I would prefer, if fighting against a big guy like that to employ a different strategy than simply overpowering them with fast hits.

And when playing as a big guy. I'd like to be able to throw my weight around instead of it being a liability.
