What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

I ripped this song from in game, because it's no on the soundtrack, but I was wondering if I can get a better quality copy anywhere..

If you tried to attach the song, it didn't work, you'll have to host it somewhere else for the time being as attachments aren't enabled yet.

I don't have all of the songs from the soundtrack so I can't help you find out where to get a better copy, but why is the file numbered "19" and called "When_Theres_No_One_Left" if you don't know the name of it?

Hm, indeed that's a major lacuna not to have that tune in MP3 anywhere on oni2.net
For now I'll just put it where the other tunes are, i.e., HERE
Not sure about "19_Whatever"... What's "18", then? the bonus porn groove track?

I'm pretty sure I named it a while back when I got it, but I don't know where the 19 came from tongue

It sounds fine quality to me. I feel I've heard it somewhere before... are you sure it's not in the game?

It IS, it's played at the end of the atmospheric-whatever-level, after the elevator opens up, and you fight TCTF for the first time.
And it's not great quality, I ripped it from in game, by recording sound that would be going to my speakers, thus you can hear the background ambiance.

Hmm, you could use Alloc's OUP to get all sound fragments. After that take a music editor and put them together.

^^ I don't have a PC, and I'm not great at editing music.

Re: What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

I'll see what I can do with OUP... Generally the extracted WAV seem to have extra noise as compared to what you hear ingame
(I don't mean the ingame ambients, which you can turn off or get away from if you want to, BTW, but some kind of annoying hiss...)
So I'm not sure that track (also heard at the end of the training course) will sound nice when ripped and stitched together...

About the wiki (that goes mainly to paradox). The OGG format is not such a good idea, because: 0) we're not Wikipedia; 1) OGG is not all that popular with web browsers, really (I mean, there are ways to get it to work, but they can be quite a pain depending on the browser everyone uses); 2) we have FTP directories on oni2.net for music and such, and the MP3 is just fine.

Geyser, you are right once more^^  I didn't got it working. But ripping and put it together seems to be a two-face-thing: earphones hissed and big boxes not... Why I used ogg: my mp3-file have at very beginning a little peak. ogg works fine. ahm... this days are just strange. Well, show me how to upload on oni2.net and you guys can give it a try.

Re: What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

ogg works fine.

What browser are you using?
Uploading OGG into Media (on the wiki) is not supported on Oni Galore. Because we just don't think it's a good idea.
The OGG files on Wikipedia are a good way to check if your browser can stream OGG files.
I got it to work with Opera, but it's not something I'd require a generic user to go through...

I'll make an MP3 version of the said file this week. I figured out where the hissing came from.

Re: What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

Don't understand me wrong:
1) My sound tool created an unwanted peak in the final mp3. (I wanted to upload it nonetheless, but no support. There was neither a browser nor a stream test.)
2) I went on tring out ogg - it was played fine by winamp. (Also no support in wiki, no browser,...)
3) At same time I compared earphones and boxes - and with boxes you hear very less hiss (if at all).
4) I sent you a mail with this file.

Re: What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

Unwanted peaks... oh dear...

There's no hiss at all in the original WAV (4 bits per sample). Upon conversion to 8 bps (with MS Sound Recorder), a hiss appears.
That's a good reason for me to finally install Audacity and do the conversion properly.
If your speakers don't hiss, it probably means that they suck at playing back highs smile
From my experience, earphones are much better than speakers on the average.

Before uploading OGG files, it's better to make sure that they can be streamed by browser plugins (wiki or no wiki).
From my experience with Opera, plugins don't work properly, VLC works OK but could work better, and online JavaScript players work OK, but it feels weird to link to remote pages to play back files stored on our own server...
All in all, OGG playback is still messy and I'd hate it if people hated me for forcing them to listen to OGG.
Actually, most of them wouldn't go through the trouble...

Our wiki doesn't support Media files other than images, because we've decided it didn't make much sense to support them. For those dedicated enough to upload much ( = more than a little) content onto oni2.net, we encourage the creation of FTP accounts.

I haven't gotten any mail from you recently (checking... no, nothing that looks like a sound file).
BTW, I think I told you to use geyserDOTTtooATTgmailDOTTcom, and I hope you're using that one.
One last thing. I'll generate the MP3 file by myself, thank you smile
Nothing personal, I just want to see what Audacity can do...

Yes Mr. Geyser, just go and save the day wink ...the most was somewhere beyond my understanding/knowledge, sorry for the mass.
I wanted a download base for others and no streaming or something else. I'm a little fool^^
So I give you my last information about this topic -  the fragment composition Jon God used:

Re: What's the name of this song, and does anyone have a better copy?

Dunno, being able to stream MP3s with the QT plugin is just nice, if you ask me. As for the mess, heck, I'm sorry too smile
JonGod recorded the music ingame...
The progression, as defined in the OSGr, starts with _1, ends with _out,
and goes through a random progression in between (in JG's case: 3, 1, 3, 6, 2, 6, 1, 3, 6, 2, 4, 5, 3, 2,...).
That said, random progressions don't always sound nice...
I think I'll go with the straightforward "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, out" progression... Soon... (some time tonight, perhaps).

OK, here it is: Up And Away
Took a few minutes with Audacity
(which I've never used before).
Loop progression as detailed above.
