A Demon's Heart

A Demon's Heart

This game takes place in the year 2200, in an updated New York City.  It begins
with a young man named Gerald, who is an officer of NYPD.  He slowly discovers as the game goes on that there is something special - and dangerous - about him.  Something that will put his life in danger - as well as his heart.
Gerald starts out at the police station, where he is given the option to train with his buddy Winslow as his trainer, or just go around chatting with the other cops.  Then Gerald is told to report to Chief Evans, who tells him to go to a warehouse to investigate suspicious activity.  Gerald goes there.
Gerald is at the warehouse conducting the investigation.  He discovers that
some gangs working for a guy named Timothy are smuggling goods from the
warehouse.  Gerald reports this to the chief, who has a few teams sent to neutralize the smuggling ring, which deals in giant killer mechs.
A few days later, Gerald discovers that the police station is under attack by Timothy's thugs.  He does his best fighting them off, but sadly, the thugs kidnap Winslow and run off.
Gerald tries to convince Chief Evans to put him in charge of the team that will
rescue Winslow, but Evans is adamant about Gerald not being on that team,
because he thinks that Gerald is doing this for personal, wrong reasons.  Seeing
that he's getting nowhere, Gerald agrees and secretly decides to rescue Winslow
by himself.  Considering that Gerald has worked for the NYPD for 5 years, followed
the rules and doesn't consider himself a lone wolf, it must have been very hard
- or very easy - to make a decision like that.
Gerald goes to the factory where Winslow was taken.  He does his best to be
careful, because he's all by himself, which makes him very vulnerable to the thugs, and if the cops saw him, they would know that he went against direct orders.  It takes a while, but he eventually finds Winslow in a room converted into an interrogation chamber.  Winslow is dying, and he tells Gerald that Timothy had him kidnapped, because he wanted to know just how much of a threat Gerald is to his plans.  When Gerald asks what those plans are, Timothy responds that he doesn't know, because Timothy didn't tell him.  Winslow gives a DVD to Gerald, telling him to guard this with his life and to not go up to any of the cops with it on him, because if he does, they could have him jailed or executed.
Winslow then tells Gerald that he's a cyborg, and the mechanical part of him contains a bomb that will destroy the entire factory, because the bomb is such
that if Winslow dies, the bomb goes off to keep anybody from extracting potentially
compromising information from him.  Winslow tells Gerald that he'll try to stay
alive for as long as he can, but Gerald better run.  Gerald cusses over this and both of them say farewell to each other.  It was close, but Gerald escapes the factory just before it blew taking everyone and everything with it.
A few days later, Gerald is now a fugitive of the law, because the Chief found evidence that Gerald defied direct orders, which is punishable by life sentence, and Gerald has a DVD that he can't let go or get caught with.  Since his apartment and other familiar places are now guarded by cops and undercover operatives, he is forced to go to the Bronx, which is a place where no cop dares to go to.
He gets into fights with some goons, and is rescued by a mysterious old man.  The old man takes him to a part of the Bronx where the people there don't attack
others on sight - usually.  The residents are leery at first, but when Gerald reveals that he's a fugitive from the law, they warm up to him more, because a large majority of them are criminals, either out of necessity or out of desire.
It takes a while, but he finds an old computer that can run the DVD he's got.  He runs it, and discovers that it has information on his parents that he never
knew about - particularly unethical science experiments.  He knows where he can
find them, which is the New York Science Centre.  As he prepares to leave the
Bronx, he finds out from the residents that they're worried that he'll never come back.  Apparently, they have had people show up and then leave, never to return.  He promises them that he'll come back, to which they respond that they hope so, because several people have made such promises and never kept them.
Gerald goes to the NYSC, and it proves to be tricky, because there are guards
in many parts of the NYSC.  He eventually manages to get his parents alone in a secure room and confronts them himself.  When he shows them the DVD, they are
surprised because they made that DVD and when it disappeared, they thought they
were screwed, big-time.  They reveal that they did do those experiments and one
experiment that they didn't dare put on the DVD.  When Gerald asks, they reveal
that when Gerald was born, they tampered with his cells, and created cancer
cells with very bizarre properties.  These cells will actually consume normal cells when the host experience stress or injury.  If the cells are stimulated enough, the host can manipulate energy in unnatural ways.  Apparently, Gerald can use this energy to run extremely fast.  When Gerald expresses how pissed off he is with them, they tell him that they also took some of his cells and made a clone of him, and that they made those same bizzare cancer cells (BCCs) with him, and tampered his brain so that he would grow up as a sociopath.  When they reveal to Gerald that this clone's name is Timothy, Gerald grabs them and tells them that he should kill them for doing all this.  They respond by telling him they had to find a way to balance out Gerald's power and that way was Timothy.
When they tell him that they tampered with other people's cells, Gerald is  shocked and asks them why no one else has shown bizzare abilities, they reveal
that Gerald and Timothy's BCCs are active and that everyone else's BCC's are
dormant.  They go on to explain that the environment outside the city is very
hostile, and that energy fields surround the world's cities to keep them habitable.  They prepared a plan in which if the energy fields gave out, they would activate the satellite network orbiting the planet, which would bombard the planet with energy fields strong enough to activate the BCCs in everyone, thereby allowing them to survive the hostile environment.  Before Gerald can say anything, a group of cops show up, breaking down the door and having all three of them at gunpoint.  Gerald tries to tell them to leave his parents alone, because it's him they want.  They snort, telling him that they found out everything that's been said, and also reveal that there are no secure places in the NYSC.  Gerald is embarrassed, as all three of them are taken away.
Gerald and his parents are now in prison, and Gerald is certain that they will be executed on the spot very soon.  Then, Chief Evans and some heavily armed and armoured cops show up.  The Chief tells them that they will be executed as soon as Gerald does one last job for them.  When Gerald asks what job's that, the Chief tells him that they found out where Timothy is, and they want him to lead a strike team there to go and neutralize Timothy.  The Chief feels that Gerald is the only person who can stop Timothy, and he wants Gerald watched as this is happening.  He warns Gerald that if he resists the cops, he will be killed.  Gerald promises not to resist the cops under any circumstances.  When everyone stares at him, he responds that when he makes promises, he does his damnest to keep them.  When Gerald asks about his parents, the Chief tells him that he will keep a personal eye on them.
Gerald is taken to a small jet, which takes him to the compound Timothy's at.
Along the way, Gerald looks out and sees the hostile environment down there.
Gerald and the strike team drop down to the compound, which proves to be very
big.  Gerald and the team battle their way through the compound, and discover
Timothy's plan.  He's going to use the satellite network to destory all the energy
field generators around the world at once.  Unfortunately, it's activating, so there's nothing they can do to stop it.  They hurry to kill off Timothy, because they feel that it would be best to stop Timothy, so that he won't terrorize anyone else.  They encounter Timothy, who is happy to meet his bro face-to-face so that he could kill him.  Then Chief Evans, with his best cops, shows up, with Gerald's parents in tow.  When Gerald asks, the Chief tells him that he wanted to kill off Timothy himself.  Timothy just laughs and reveals his abilities, which basically involve manipulating the earth.  At first it seems like Timothy's going to win.  Then the Chief throws Gerald some stimulants and tells him that he doesn't care how Gerald does it, and to just kill off Timothy!
Gerald quickly stims himself into Energy Mode.  He still doesn't have an easy time fighting Timothy.  Then he realizes that Timothy has to use stims, so
Gerald takes out a tranquilizer gun, and shoots Timothy a couple times with it.
This causes Timothy to lose most of his power.  Gerald ends up completely
obliterating Timothy.  However, they still have to deal with the satellite network.  Fortunately, Gerald's parents have a laptop, which they use to activate the plan, which activates the BCC's in everyone worldwide.  The cops, and the parents, who were wearing Bio-Suits, take off their helmets to breathe the air.  Then the Chief holds Gerald and his parents at gunpoint, preparing to shoot them.  When one of the younger cops tries to point out that they saved everybody, the Chief yells at her, telling her that they are too dangerous alive.  Just when it looks like Gerald and his parents are finished, the cops suddenly keel over and choke.  Gerald's parents go up, take the Chief's guns, and pump him full of lead.  When Gerald, in total shock, demands an answer, they tell him that they made the BCC's in the cops and politicians worldwide such that they would activate for a minute or so, and then go dormant again.  They did this, because they felt that the politicians and cops were hindering their research and experiments, and that they needed to be taken out of the picture for good.  Gerald, furious, declares that they are not his parents, that they are sociopaths just like Timothy, and that he'll stop them.  Before he even
gets close, he gets lifted up into the air, slammed into the ground a few times, and then gets a voice in his head telling him to not get up.  The parents go up and tell him that they have become telekinetic and telepathic.  They tell him that they do love him, even if it's not the type that he prefers.  He tells that someday, somehow, someone will make them answer for all they did, to which they simply agree.  They fly away, but before telling him that he's in a whole world now and to get used to it.  Gerald gets up, and wonders if he should chase after them, or to get back to New York.
If Gerald chooses to chase after them, he will do this for the rest of his life.
He never finds them again, and the world crumbles into destructive war spanning
the entire world.
If Gerald chooses to go back to New York, he discovers a city where people are in anarchy, because there are no cops to keep the peace, and no politicians to lead them.  He goes to that one section in the Bronx, where he finds that the people there are panicking, but not to the extent of the other parts, mostly because they are used to living in an environment where there's no cops and no politicians - but they are not used to having a lot of power so suddenly.  He meets the old man, and explains everything that happened.  The old man takes it all rather calmly, and tells him that now that all this has happened, what's he going to do about it?  Gerald tells him that he'll show them how to control their power, to which the old man responds that it's a wise course of action.  When Gerald asks the old man who is he, the old man tells him that he would be better off not knowing the answer to that question.  Gerald, a little confused, goes back to meet the residents.  They are happy to see him, because he kept his promise, and he tells them that he tries his damnednest to
keep the promises he makes.  He has the residents gather up in one place and
explains the whole situation, and their abilities.  He ends up becoming a person to look up to in the section.  He thinks about how so much has happened and changed in the world in the last week.  He resolves that he will do his best to help people get used to the new world and their newfound abilities - not to mention fight those who would tamper with human life.

I made this storyline above, because I found several parts of Oni's story unsatisfying.  This is my attempt to take Oni's storyline, and change it so that you can still see parts of Oni in it, but it's not a total rip-off (Like having some language in it).  What do you think, guys?  smile

Addition 1: In the DVD, there's a file where Winslow reveals that he's a drug addict, and that he pilfered a lot of good quality stuff to pay for his habit.  He reveals that he stole the DVD from Gerald's parents and was going to sell it, but when he made the connection to Gerald and his parents, he decided to hold on to it.  He feels that Gerald has the right to know the truth.

Addition 2: If Gerald goes back to that one section in the Bronx, he not only becomes the leader there, but he can decide to lead them out of New York City entirely.  This is because he noticed an interesting area on the trip from and to the city.  In this area, they will be able to set up a small town there, grow food, and hunt animals.  The area may be poisonous, but even plants and animals can adapt to a hostile environment - especially with help from morally questionable scientists.  Also, with everyone's newfound abilities (Kinda reminds you of Marvel's mutants and DC's metahumans, doesn't it?), they can actually survive the environment - even though it's not going to be easy!  smile

Can you guess who the old man is?  Here's a hint: time is one of the two important parts to speed.  smile

Re: A Demon's Heart

Could you at least reformat your text so that it doesn't have line breaks in the middle of sentences? You missed a lot of those.

Paragraphs are bloody long. Maybe split them up a bit, too.

Without rereading the text (for the aforementioned reasons, it's a pain), the old man could be:
Mr. Galilei?
Mr. Newton?
Mr. Doppler?
Mr. Mach?
Mr. Einstein?
Gerald's twin brother who spent a few years in a spaceship?
Mr. Turtle?
42?
a Chicks on Speed fan?

Re: A Demon's Heart

Huh. Do you really need a time travel paradox to top it off? hmm
I thought the story was, um, entertaining enough without it.

Re: A Demon's Heart

The game doesn't actually exist... It's more like a piece of Oni fan fiction at this point.
