OK, so we missed this deadline. Thanks to all the people involved, especially to Loser and Neo (and SFeLi).
And of course let's not forget the testers. As it is, you've helped design the modding scheme we have now.

The Anniversary is hereby postponed to July 21 (in seven months). That should leave us the time to deliver.
Seriously, even without the import of 100% new meshes, there are at least 2 ways to improve Oni's missions.
One way is to provide higher-quality textures, be it for the environment or for the characters. Make Oni shine.
Another way is to (re)write single-player logic (and arenas) that draw full advantage of the array of characters.

Attached is a screenshot of a few characters I added. I'm not releasing them yet, because... just because.
The next release by myself will probably not occur until a month or two from now. Take care, everybody.

BTW, here's the background for the main menu so far: http://onimia.ru/forum/attachment.php?item=50

At the teaser.png I got a little question, what program did you use to create those striker textures, i mean, when i edit a texture that has shaders or whatever i should call it, i can see through it for some reason sad so, maybe i am doing something wrong.

Loser: I looked at the w1_tap carefully and it appears the shell casing are coming out of the hole.

Hmm, yeah, I totally misunderstood Loser :-3  I thought he was asking for new shells, not a new gun texture.  Anyway, it does look like the texture is correct, so I'm not sure what is being looked for here anymore.

Re: Anniversary Edition Preview

Okay, here's some results of my playtesting over the weekend.

In the Airport Hangar level, when one of the guys with dark hair and no helmet (is he a Striker?) sees you and runs for the alarm, two different tracks start playing over each other.  This is an original Oni bug, I think, but one that the Edition could probably fix easily.

Again, I don't know what to call those guys, but their fighting abilities are much higher now.  Too high, I think.  But that's just me.  I am still struggling to bring my skills high enough to handle the improved MELE stuff without cheating and using "chr_full_health 0" once in a while.

When Oni runs in 1680x1050, the Dev Console is broken.  Hitting ~ freezes the controls, but typing yields nothing and there is no command prompt.  Also, typing a command and hitting Enter has no effect, so it's not just a visual glitch.  Somehow the high res. breaks the Console.  I think there is probably nothing that can be done about this except running in a lower res.

Oni crashed in Airport Assault when I snuck towards the corner of the tarmac where the guy (again, it's the one I don't know the name of) is lurking behind some crates with a plasma rifle.  I know he spawns when you get close, and it seemed like Oni blam!ed right when he should have been spawning.  I have not confirmed this bug by trying it again, but I will soon.

I just want to mention that I still don't know why Shinatama's "overpower" monologue is broken now (you know, it plays when you get your first hypo).

Also, why does my debugger log look like this (attached)?  Is that normal?  I'm talking about all those "failed to find instance" messages.  That doesn't look good.

A lot?  Only a few times.  I could tell it was trying to switch on and off because it would take away control of Konoko.

By the way, the guy I kept trying to describe in my previous post is a Comguy.  I knew that.

Re: Anniversary Edition Preview

Not to harp on this, but here's what the manual says about the Comm guy:

The Manual wrote:

Comm Trooper

Bio Data: Comm Troopers are the communications specialists for the Syndicate.

Strengths: Trained in hand-to-hand combat, skilled marksman.

Special Moves: Static Fist

Weaknesses: Physically weak.

Description: Comm Troopers maintain communications between Syndicate assault squads, and serve as field computer specialists.

But this guy fights like a freakin' master ninja now.  Seriously, Loser, can you dial it back a little?

---
Also, it seems that the marker at the end of the Airport Hangar level that shows where to stand to use the tracker & harness is gone now.  Is it my imagination?

@ Iritscen:

"Seriously, Loser, can you dial it back a little?" I'll do it "my way" in the next release.
There will be 3 common comguy classes, which will fight like losers (not like Loser's).
And there will be 3 extra classes which will give credit to the Ninja Comguy theory smile

About the crashes at the Airport: probably an issue with the pathfinding grid cache...
We know how to fix this, but didn't really release it to the public, let alone for the Mac.

The high res does mess up console display on the PC. You're the first report for Mac.
Why doncha guys play in lo-res when fooling around with the Dev Mode, anyway? smile

As for music bugs in chapter 5 and elsewhere: will definitely be fixed Soon Enough.

As for lost Shinatama quotes: make sure subtitles are enabled; check if those appear.

As for the bearing at the end of Chapter 5: it should be there, "spawned" by the script.

Okay... I'll see how that works out when they're introduced.

I couldn't get the bug to happen again last night, so if it's an original Oni bug I would say it's not a big deal.  Oni virtually never crashes, so any bugs it may have rarely show up.

The high res does mess up console display on the PC. You're the first report for Mac.

I use windowed mode for testing purposes, but any real gameplay requires full-screen mode.  Anyway, I'm just back in 1024x768 mode now, it's not a real problem.  Just wanted to note it.

As for music bugs in chapter 5 and elsewhere: will definitely be fixed Soon Enough.

I'm glad to hear that you're aware of them already.

As for lost Shinatama quotes: make sure subtitles are enabled; check if those appear.

I always have subtitles on, and there's nothing showing for the hypo message.

As for the bearing at the end of Chapter 5: it should be there, "spawned" by the script.

I haven't seen the yellow beacon in quite some time in my testing of various Editions.  I can take a screenshot to prove it.  I know that the Edition shouldn't be doing anything that breaks something like that, but the fact remains that it's not there.  It would be interesting to know if anyone else has this problem.  A missing beacon like that will make life difficult for any newbie who plays through for the first time.

"I'm glad to hear that you're aware of them already." I'm aware of them, but I don't have a TODO list.
Any people who are familiar enough with scripting should consider listing or even fixing all those bugs.

"I haven't seen the yellow beacon in quite some time in my testing of various Editions."
It only appears after you've killed all the Strikers patrolling the area above the plane.
Same for Shinatama's warning: tell us exactly where you expect it and what happens.

I'm done, because that's the only one I know. I can try to find out why it happens, but I don't think I know enough about Oni's use of BSL yet.

Same for Shinatama's warning: tell us exactly where you expect it and what happens.

I expect it when I beat that warehouse thug who drops the first hypo (I think it's the very second enemy you encounter).  When you pick it up, isn't Shinatama supposed to launch into her 5 minute speech about hypoes? (OK, it just feels like 5 minutes)*

OH.  I retract my comment.  Lately I am lazy and just run up to the spot without even fighting the plasma rifle guys.  Which shouldn't be allowed, by the way, because it makes no sense that she could do that.  Something to think about, maybe, for the Edition.

*By the way, as a total aside, who here actually likes the English voice acting for Shinatama?

Re: Anniversary Edition Preview

"I expect it when I beat that warehouse thug who drops the first hypo (I think it's the very second enemy you encounter)."
Well, it can be the 5th enemy you encounter if you "beat'em'all", but I see who you mean.
For the record, you can get a hypo before that guy, from that famous Easter egg Striker.

"When you pick it up, isn't Shinatama supposed to launch into her 5 minute speech about hypoes?"
Well, the point here is "she" is waiting for a regular pickup, so cartwheels/rolls/slides won't work.
Sorry for not realizing that thing sooner. I was too lazy to play myself and make the connection.

"Lately I am lazy and just run up to the spot without even fighting the plasma rifle guys"
Well, then, we should enable the trigger volume at the same time as the beacon, not sooner.

"*By the way, as a total aside, who here actually likes the English voice acting for Shinatama?"
Moving that to the love/hate thread: http://oni.bungie.org/community/forum/v … php?id=250

That's interesting, but I always just do a regular pickup, so it's not the problem.  But if no one else is having this issue, maybe it's just my computer for some reason.

"Lately I am lazy and just run up to the spot without even fighting the plasma rifle guys"

If I know what that means, then yes, that's what I recommend.  Don't enable that ending cutscene trigger until the rifle dudes are KOed.

Moving that to the love/hate thread

Moving it back.  So there tongue

First of all, that's not a love/hate thread, it's called "What's your favorite character?"  Second, it's relevant to this thread because I was going to suggest that for the Edition we re-record her lines with someone who can actually act.  Not seriously, though.  Everyone knows this community is devoid of girls.  And if there were any, they probably couldn't act anyway.

Re: Anniversary Edition Preview

"A note: using "fistsoflegend" is messed up in AE, because of the knockdown issue" Hm, indeed, and badly.
Thanks. There might also be an issue with the overpower (apparently overpower gives extra knockback).
Maybe the only way to fix this is to replace the domino knockdown with a stagger, as suggested earlier.

"Everyone knows this community is devoid of girls.  And if there were any, they probably couldn't act anyway."
Heh, are you sure this doesn't belong to the love/hate thread, or to some new one made for male chauvinism? smile
There happen to be quite a few girls out here, although admittedly I never heard them do any voice acting...
New voice acting is quite a problem anyway, because of localizations. Not everyone would enjoy the change.
Also, the sounds come in different formats for Mac and PC, which makes them quite dissuasive to mod ATM.
Coming back to Shinatama, maybe a synthetic voice would do fine. They just keep getting better and better.
But I think it's only fair that we leave the original Shinatama. Who are we to replace voice actors, anyway?

Some impressions of playing edititon.
Konoko kills striker with a kick from behind. Strikers falls back and knocks Konoko down. Looks... strange smile
Using Lariat is one of the best ways to put Konoko in danger now.

"Using Lariat is one of the best ways to put Konoko in danger now."
Please develop. Why would the Lariat be dangerous for Konoko?

"Striker falls back and knocks Konoko down. Looks... strange smile"
Well, the problem is that he shouldn't be falling back in this case.
The Edition didn't "create" that falling bug, only made it annoying.
This is one of the few major issues with the "dominos" right now.
I proposed a fix to which no one has responded so far. Here it is again:
Would you prefer if the domino knockdown was replaced by a stagger?

Because she stays still for a while, unable to move or turn to dodge or block attack from behind. Maybe it has something to do with "invulnerability periods" for animations.
Taling about domino bug. I realize that it's not fault of edition. ^^' By the way, I still wonder how was it possible to fix engine and "stufy" AI to dodge projectiles? Doesn't look like there is source code for Oni somewhere in the net.

Re: Anniversary Edition Preview

"I said that would be almost tolerable, even though I'd much rather the whole "idea" were just abandoned."

OK, I musta overlooked that statement in one of our back-and-forth heaps of gameplay jazz.
Maybe because you made it before trying out the latest "fixed" Edition or something like that.

We'll see what we can do, but I think the stuff will stay there for a while, for more people to test it.
I mean, I find the knockdowns quite comfortable and fun, while you think they outrageously suck...
As for the supposed "majority", they only complained about fistsoflegend and the fallback bug so far.
(as for the problem with the Lariat reported by HappyCat above, I have yet to confirm it on my side)

I do realize that if knockdowns only cause stagger splash, they could just as well cause none at all...
The domino effect was what made the "idea" appealing to everybody (OK, not you) in the first place.
If the domino is out, there's a good chance that knockdowns will be completely reverted (your wish).
Then again, custom installations would allow everyone to have knockdowns the way they like them.

However, I have a feeling you are still being a wee bit categoric about the matter.
Why, for example, would we abandon the knockdown splash for blownup anims? neutral

On another note, I'd like you (or anybody) to have another good look at the feature.
It's different from the original Oni, that much is certain. Unfamiliar, yes. But, worse?

The Lariat is a dangerous thing to try, as is many other throws. What normally happens to me is a throw a guy, and another enemy comes in from the side and throws me.
