Moriarty of CryMor did a great job with this.  Many thanks to Hardy for participating :-)  I'm sorry that you guys at BWest had to crunch so hard back then that it left you traumatized for a while, but I know exactly what you mean when you say that the effort you put into the game infused it with a kind of life force; it really does show in the final product.

Re: Remarkable Oni research video (with Oni's lead designer interview)

It never struck me the crunch was so bad. The spoken of circumstances sound crazy! Every time I visit this forum it strikes me how long it's been going and how long it's been since the game was released. Yet it still holds a dear place in my heart as one of the best and most unique games I've played. But it also sadness me that decoupled and unwilling publishers won't give it another shot. It's like parents fighting over custody of children, except neither one want kids. smile

Thanks for the link.
After watching the document I felt a strange mixture of shock and sadness.
I have already experienced crunch times in my SW-related job, but at worst they lasted a few days, not full months.
Those guys at Bungie West deserve every bit of respect.

By the way, it makes sense to me now why there are so many unused features and so many strange engine-related bugs.

They mention a few times in the video about how bad the PS2 version is, but didn't really elaborate on why. It seemed fine to me. Could anyone clarify what they meant, why was it so bad?

Re: Remarkable Oni research video (with Oni's lead designer interview)

I think that Oni's lead designer is naturally going to be harder on the final product than some players :-)  I know he didn't feel the control scheme for the DualShock was designed well.  Personally I think the loading times are the worst part.  Besides that, the graphics seem a bit off to me.  Oddly, if you look at Oni's Metacritic scores for Windows and PS2, there's only a small difference.  I think that must be explained by reviewers going easier on console games, because the experience on PS2 was not as good.
