Your questions here - Ask me anything about Oni

Just figured I'd throw this out here. Ask me anything about Oni and I'll answer it the best I can. If I can't answer it, I can probably find someone who can.

Re: Your questions here - Ask me anything about Oni

Let's be *rude word for donkey* ^_^.
Are there any remnants of Quinn Dunki's AI setup in Oni code? Back then she was talking about creating some sort of simplified emotional system or neural network in order to achieve more human-like AI.
The way she was fererring to her work indicated she actually had some parts of this idea done (she was talking how devs can see emotional state of AIs via "colored aura" debugging feature). Question is...is it there?

Ha! Nice topic smile
I have a lot of questions ^^ but for now I'll ask you one thing...
I was reading some old topis on this forum and I found this link: http://websvn.chrilly.net/listing.php?r … 56c93a0090
I searched it and found some 81000TCTF3 package. It is in "NextRelease" folder. The question is what is that? Some new level or something else (I think its new level because of 80000 number)?

Probably. Nothing like a neural network though. "Emotions" are probably "states" now.

Something fan made.

Heh. My pet project. It is a new level, a rework of TCTF.

Re: Your questions here - Ask me anything about Oni

Huh? You mean it doesn't work? That's...odd. The gamma slider should work with the version of the Daodan included with AE. Are you using the Flatline DLL instead? Nevertheless, this is a question for Help and Support, not here.

Oh, you mean like an official dedicated server. Um, probably not. I don't have a spare computer to run one on, sorry. Or did you mean a master server, to find other people who are playing?

I believe distance would be a problem. Servers all around the world, is a better idea, in my opinion.

Now, back on topic ^^
Did you ever saw/played Oni in pre beta or early beta mode?
Back on my first question, are you going to release that TCTF3 project?

Re: Your questions here - Ask me anything about Oni

For the amount of people who will be playing Oni, dedicated servers are unnecessary, plus they create other headaches.  At least when someone hosts from their own machine you know that the host is near you (unless you're purposely playing with someone far away, which is silly).  Now, a metaserver where we can find each other and arrange matches, that's useful.

A metaserver --> Dedicated servers around the world. If you get what I mean. I've an actual server downstairs, I'm using it often for hosting servers in games like Serious Sam, Counter-Strike: Source etc. It's running 24/7, so that's not a problem either.

Am I badass at Oni with my mad skills?
Also I'm sure a huge server wouldn't be important to us, it's also hard to schedule a game due to us living all other the planet hmm

There is no functional difference between a dedicated server and a player hosted server. The only difference is disabling the rendering functions and adding remote console ability. There is something called a "ping" which you can use to tell how far away you are from a server. wink

I've seen videos of it, never played myself. sad
If it ever gets finished I will.

Ignore Iritscen, he had never played a game on a dedicated server until I introduced him to TF2 around a year ago. tongue

Samer wrote:

I'm not entirely sure. From what I can tell, it alters the AI so that it pauses less between moves, or something.

2- how did u make the ninja shadow dash .. can it be applied to other moves say jump flips ?

I increased the pelvis height of the move so that the character is thousands of feet into the air.

3- this is actually for paradox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4uZ-snMcag is this chenille available and may i use it in a character mod ?

Whoa, that's some old footage right there. smile

Umm, that's a question for Loser. smile He's much better versed in the animation system than I am.

Flatline. tongue

Re: Your questions here - Ask me anything about Oni

I would host a dedicated server at germany if it would be possible to disable the renders. But I dunno if it would ever had enough people for playing anyway. Probably would be most of the time empty.

I was playing on dedicated servers while you were in elementary school.  I didn't like them then, and I don't like them now.
