Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

Hey guys.

Yesterday, I received an iPod Touch as an early birthday present.
So I decided to get some apps and try it out.

Then, something hit me. Most of the apps are around 200-300MB.
I remembered that Oni only is around 300MB.

And then I thought - What if Oni was on iPod Touch/iPhone?
People would definitely play it much more often, and would appreciate it more.
So, developers and players, what do you think of this idea?

Re: Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

That would be cool, but I don't think a feasible project. Fine camera control in a third person environment with an imprecise device would not work well. If it was made first person then maybe, but then the combat would not be nearly as effective.

I own a few applications that use third person and I think the controls are pretty well made. It would actually be quite effective in combat, because it is easy to just press the side buttons instead of moving them to punch/kick or to do other moves.

Re: Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

Having already put a lot of thought into this, I think Oni can be done well on the iPhone.  It wouldn't be 100% as playable as the PC version, but it's doable.  And the iPhone is plenty precise, Dirk tongue  Even better, imo, would be an iPad port.

However, this project is impossible without Take Two being behind it, since they own the IP.  Since I don't think they are in the mobile space, it would be a hard sell to get them to port this or let us port it.

We can still try...

Not without source code, we can't.

Indeed.

Take Two could probably get a bit of money off of making an iPad port. I know I would buy it.

I wasn't talking about what we're going to do with the source code,
I said that we can try getting it.

You think we haven't been trying that, for years?

Even with source code, we wouldn't have distribution rights.

..and I'm sure Apple wouldn't allow it aswell, as they're sorting about 10.000 homebrews weekly. If we were to ever port it, it should be a more user customized OS; like Android.

Who knows where the future will lead us.. hopefully foward.

I know people were talking about a Myth -> iPad port.

Still, good luck getting Take 2 behind that. Having heard a thing or two myself, it seems really not likely.

Take 2 never owned Marathon though. Bungie open sourced it independently.

Re: Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

Oni is out of news and can become abandonware, making the source code good for public license. Why do they keep it for them ?

Re: Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

Feral also owns the code now. Last time I checked it still was not able to be disclosed to anyone outside the company.

Re: Oni for iPod Touch/iPhone

Love EPIC, they still giving the source codes of unreal engine games to people work in engine. Even old Unreal still receiving update patches today.

Too bad Oni code isn't owned by epic, they are awesome.
