The PC versions of Oni check for the OS version and enable/disable DirectInput accordingly.
For XP and NT, it disables DirectInput for some reason. For Win 95/98, it enables it.
One effect of an enabled DirectInput is that your keyboard layout will be irrelevant to Oni.
That is, the default setting for directional keys (WADS) will work even if you're on an AZERTY.
That is, you can pretty much use the default key_config.txt without custom-editing it.
Same for Dev Mode hotkeys (console key, various brackets and punctuation keys, whatever).
On an AZERTY, for example, there's a "²" key where the US console key, whereas on US keyboards it's a "tilde" or an "apostrophe".
So if DI is disabled, the usual console key is not recognized by Oni. If DI is enabled, I press "²" and get the console as expected.
Another effect is that your mouse wheel can then be bound to Oni's mousezaxis control.
It's not very useful because Oni doesn't have any more analog events to bind it to yet
For those who use the Japanese/English or Russian version, the Daodan DLL already enables DI regardless of the OS.
So this tip is oriented at those who have other versions, not handled by Daodan: launch Oni in Win9X compatibility mode.
(Right-click Oni.exe in the Oni folder and select Properties, then Compatibillity, then "Compatibility mode")
Then you'll be able to play Oni with DI enabled: the key mapping will "adapt" to your keyboard layout
It's only fully enjoyable if you have the Dev Mode, of course: http://wiki.oni2.net/index.php/Develope … t_yourself

Oh, thanks a lot. Somewhat hackish, but nice.
Even though I recommends the Daodan DLL
