installation on 10.6

Hiya. This may sound like a dumb question, but can oni be installed on snow leopard? If not, is there a way round it via rosetta or something?

Cheers

I can play Oni in Snow Leopard.  Just make sure you get the latest patched game engine:

Re: installation on 10.6

hi EdT

My question was - can Oni be installed on 10.6? I have a hard copy of Oni, but its saying I can't install it becuase the classic environment is not supported. I have rosetta installed...

Cheers...

Re: installation on 10.6

You should be able to copy the Oni folder from the CD to your hard drive, then put the patched Oni in that folder.

Re: installation on 10.6

Yey that kinda did it! Its now running but I dunno if these things are fixable:

1) intro wont play (maybe outro won't either)
2) Resolution issue - I have a macbook pro with a 15 inch/1440x900 display. Oni doesn't seem to be able to work with this - and if i set Oni at 1440x900, the actual game screen is tiny! I can only run it at 800x600 to get a reasonable size - and even this isn't full screen...

Cheers! smile

Re: installation on 10.6

The intro and outro don't work for anyone these days, as far as I know.

There shouldn't be a problem with the resolution while playing. The title and splashscreens are 640 x 480 and don't get scaled up to fit higher resolutions, so they sit awkwardly in the middle of a black void.

Re: installation on 10.6

You're saying the actual game graphics are not filling the screen, pianoandreas, not just the splashscreens and menus?  The only problem I've seen is not finding the resolution I want in the menu, although that hasn't been a problem for me in a while.

And yeah, the movies don't seem to work for anyone, which is odd because I have seen them play on this MacBook Pro.  Something got broken along the way somehow, but the playback was always poor anyway due to the age of the PPC Bink code.

Re: installation on 10.6

I am on a 15" MBP and I can play Oni in fullscreen 1440x900. once I choose that option the game crashes, and I relaunch it and it works fine for me.

Re: installation on 10.6

Heh.  It's supposed to quit itself and relaunch, wonder why it crashes.

P.S.: You just made post #5000 in General Discussion, congrats.  Although the Mods forum passed #5000 a little while ago.

Re: installation on 10.6

Iritscen - you're right, I didn't check the actual game, just menu. Works great. I remember playing this game years ago on an imac. So good then and just as good now. What is it about a great game. What makes it great? X factor...Just one thing though....when I learn a new move or a new mission objective is given, F1 won't access the info...I just end up darkening the screen! any ideas people? thanks for the help.  big_smile

Re: installation on 10.6

Oh, then maybe it just quits, but it has never relaunched for me. I should note that the main menu seems smaller, but when you actually play the game it is the whole screen.

You need to either (a) hold down the Fn key on your keyboard (laptops only, probably) while pressing the F-key, or (b) go into the Keyboard prefs and turn on "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys".

Re: installation on 10.6

What about it? :0)  There was talk of the fans making one for a while, but lately we find it's more practical and relevant to work on the original Oni.  We still have high hopes for this game, without worrying about producing content for a whole new game.
