Re: Learning to make models

Here's some aspirin...

Question, why are the names of your body parts different?  When you export the TRBS, each corresponding body part has the same name, pelvis, mid, chest, etc...

If you copy the chief's right_shoulder and paste it to the blackops, does the name change?

I wonder why it is so difficult to set the parent child relationship, in Blender, I select the two parts, mid & pelvis and select Make Parent.  In Cheetah3D I drag the name of the child to the parent and it makes the link.

Re: Learning to make models

I think modtool doesn't have an option "make parent" or something similar. Since Blender have that option, I might try importing the model to Blender.

Re: Learning to make models

EdT:I'm still in a little trouble. All the body parts have the relationship. Then import it to Oni and the body looks almost normal. About 90% is complete. But still looks a bit wacky. I will post the file later.

And yeah is funny. smile
The pelvis is only moving. The upper body part just freeze into a postion when is shapeshift. Did you experience this before? If you did how did you fixed it?

The hip (pelvis) bone connects to the....chest bone!

Wow, ONIrules is discovering totally new ways to break character models, this is a fascinating thread! big_smile

Re: Learning to make models

Pelvis to chest?!?!?!?! I thought its pelvis>mid>chest

Update!!

"Now the only other issue you may have is the texture mapping with the Chief's body parts. The TXMP for the blackops parts may not map correctly to the Chief's parts.  That I don't know how to do..."

The mapping for the marine is perfect!!
011531316.jpg

Problems with my model
-feet are messed up (left is in the right while right is in the left)
-parent relationship made, but know know why the pelvis, feet, calf, and thigh is only moving
-top part above pelvis is not moving

Sucessful things in my model
-UV mapping textures does covers chiefs bodyparts even though they are swap
-the body structure looks normal (hands in the right place, head attach to neck, etc..............)

And there is already a parent relationship on pelvis>mid>chest. Stll the pelvis, feet, calf, and thigh
is only moving

Here is the update version of the file http://drop.io/ONIrules  and again is TCTF_marine.dae
.

Re: Learning to make models

When I look at your DAE file in Blender, it still looks messed up to me. For example left shoulder is connected to TRBSmaster_elite_.011 but the connection to left wrist is missing. So the naming is still off.

Try this, export your TRBStctf_marine.oni from Oni as a DAE and see how it looks in ModTools.  Also, can you post your TRBStctf_marine.oni file.

Re: Learning to make models

EdT: I import it to ModTool and I see the only the chief's feet, thighs, calfs, and one pelvis, but why is it like that?

Re: Learning to make models

You might start over and do a very simple swap, perhaps a head or a foot. One problem I still see is that the body parts are not correctly named in the DAE.

Re: Learning to make models

Take a look at this, on the left is the lite black ops TRBS hierarchy, see how simple the structure is, on the right is your Marine TRBS hierarchy. Big difference!

Re: Learning to make models

Here's my version of TCTFmarine:
TCTFmarine.jpg

The TXMP needs to be modified so that it doesn't look like the Chief's legs.

Woo!!!
EdT: When you make your cyborg striker you put both models in the 3D program> then you rename the parts and make the parent relationship > then export and do XML editing > recombine and bam . Is this what you did?

Re: Learning to make models

You got me!! Thats the model, but since you made it, credit goes to you. I might still need to practice making chars.

Also you can teach me how you made the cyborg striker, so I can follow those steps. Plus using the same way of making the cyborg striker can help me make more characters!!!

Re: Learning to make models

No, you still have to make it, its your idea! I'm just motivating you! smile

Maybe that's the problem, can you copy and paste in ModTools? What I did was I first delete the blackops legs and biceps, then copied the Chief's legs and biceps and pasted them into the blackops document., so that there were no duplicate parts.  Then I just made the parent child relationships with the new parts.

The cyborg striker was done in the same manner. Copied the leg and arm from the Ninjabot, then pasted them into the striker's document.

Re: Learning to make models

Well in modtool, you can clone, but only in that program. So if you open another modtool program and try to copy the body part to the first modtool program, it won't work. Eh.. you get what I mean rite?

Re: Learning to make models

So in other words, you can't have two documents open at the same time and copy and paste between them?

If that's the case, try this.  Open the chief's TRBS in modtool, delete everything, except for the legs and biceps. Save the document.  Open the blackops TRBS and delete the legs and biceps and save.  Now if you put both models in the program, you won't have duplicate parts.

Re: Learning to make models

ONIrules, this is beginning to sound like it's a problem that a board devoted to the ModTool could help you with.  There should be a community of XSI users where you can find someone who will tell you how to fix the hierarchy/rename parts/merge files/whatever you need to do.

Re: Learning to make models

ONIrules.

Do what EdT said with deleting and saving. Now open up one of the models, and drag and drop the file for the other into the XSI window. You will still have to fix the connections, but it should get everything in one place, and oriented correctly. But reparenting shouldn't be too hard. Also, look at this: http://wiki.oni2.net/AE:Importing_chara … stardizing

Re: Learning to make models

I did what EdT said

Heres how I did it:

1. Took the 2 oni files and turned them to DAE via Onisplit
2. Import the chief file in ModTool and took away the parts I don't need
3. Then I renamed TRBSmaster_chief_elite to TCTF_marine (not the filename)
4. Saved it as TCTF_marine.exp
5. Made a new scence and import the blackops lite file and take away parts.
6. Since I can't open 2 EXP files in one program, I need to export it as a DAE file.
7. Again new scence and and open TCTF_marine.exp and import the TCTF_marine.dae
(blackops file)
8. Made the parent relationship on the new bones.
9. Renamed parts. For ex > TCTF_marine_left_calf to left_calf
10. Export to DAE file, turn it to TRBS, XML edit the ONCC and recombine

The character is not coming out right..
Is there something missing during my step?

can you repost the file(s)?

Also, you should be able to open two files in the same scene...
