Maxtor Hard Drive

Allright, so I'm kinda running out of space on my hard drive, and what I have here, is Maxtor One Touch III 320GB external hard drive lying here for about two years. Did anyone here ever had experience with this drive? I hear that it totally sucks, and the last thing I need is losing lots of data, so I'm not sure whether to install it or tell Santa Claus to get me a good hard drive this Christmas.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

I had a Maxtor drive which died after a while (no more than a couple years, I think).  But all my external drives die at some point.

Well, I'm currently using a Maxtor and it's been working fine for quite some time.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

I've had a Maxtor drive for about 7 years, and I had no problems. My little sister is using it now, because I bought myself a 120 and 160 GB SSD, as well as a 1 TB WD.
If you're careful it won't die on you that fast.

What should I do for example?

I don't know, just don't throw around with externals like my friends. >_< It ends up breaking eventually then.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

My external HDs break even though I never touch them or move them.  Moral of the story is, Don't keep anything on the external HD that you aren't okay with losing, or else make backups of it.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

wich is ironic, since generaly people use external HDs _for_ backing up files.

I intentionally spell dang, dange, FYI.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

I also find it funny since most external harddrives are nothing but internal harddrives in enclosures.

Re: Maxtor Hard Drive

Yes, but it seems that the enclosures are generally cheap and something always eventually breaks.  At least, that's been my experience with almost every brand of HD.
