Mega slowdown: vendor=Microsoft, renderer=GDI

Oni was one of my all-time favourites, so I've gone back to it, but my system is a little different now.

I'm running XP with an NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT.  Latest drivers are installed (v162.18), but Oni clearly thinks I have no 3D acceleration, because startup.txt says...

setting up 3d engine...
creating new OpenGL context
OpenGL platform initialization
Using standard Windows gamma adjustment
opengl color bits = 16
opengl depth bits = 16
OpenGL vendor = Microsoft Corporation
OpenGL renderer = GDI Generic
OpenGL version = 1.1.0

The game runs like a slideshow, even at 640x480.

I can run some old stuff like Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, so I'm pretty sure my OpenGL is in order - is there any way to check?

Am I stuffed with this graphics card, or am I doing something stupid?

Many thanks.

Re: Mega slowdown: vendor=Microsoft, renderer=GDI

I'd read the message, and concluded that my graphics card was a toaster, so I thought I'd re-check my drivers even though I thought they were up to date.  Sure enough, there was a one-point newer version of the driver (released August 2007), and it fixed the problem!  So I'd have been stuffed if I'd tried Oni before then.

However, it's all working now, and Oni looks better than ever!

Thanks,

MIG. smile
