Awesome. With all the junk we're doing Oni is like a whole new game several times over and with no signs of slowing.
Okay maybe that's a bit dramatic... But still, we're doin' cool stuff here.
yea i think the title screen is wrong it should say

So if take two owns oni and if we somehow create a sequel to Oni, money goes to take two instead of our modders who work so hard everyday with no pay for the last 7 years? *blinks in shock*
Offline
Well we wouldn't sell it we'd prob just give it away. If we're not gettin' paid either way might as well get more cheap audience.
If we don't change the direction we're going, we'll likely end up where we're headed.

Modders always work for free, Stevinlewis, nothing unusual about that
byproducts are fine, but where's the beef?

So true.

yeah, the point is to make the game for enjoyable for yourself and others, but that would be sick if we got payed to do it

NO because u cant sell oni, unless we buy it from take two...hmm why did take two buy oni in the first place?
Online
Same reason anyone buys anything, because it seemed like a good investment. This way they would get all the money from sales of Oni, and they could also make a sequel that would make more money. That was the idea, anyway.
Technically, T2 didn't buy Oni, they bought 19.9% stake in Bungie, which was later bought back by Bungie to sell to MS along with the other 80.1%. Bungie got their 19.9% back by giving the Oni and Myth IPs to T2. But that's mostly semantics. T2 just saw Bungie's work as a good investment, that's all.

I dunno how someone could know Oni is awesome enough to trade Bungie stock for but then give up on making it awesomer.

I don't really know either, unless Oni's sales just weren't what T2 was expecting and counting on. Of course we don't know what the sequel would have been like, just that it would have been developed by people who had nothing to do with Bungie.

Owh modders... no payment O_O. Wow thats cool. Okay... mod for ur own pleasure... i get the picture

yea Stevin, modders are the "Silent Pirates"
Pretty much cuz its not authentic, and they keep their names hidden.

Just wishful thinking i guess, but what would the cost look likef or buying Oni rights from T2?

No idea, I might ask them if I can ever get in contact with someone in T2. Even if we knew, it's probably more than we have.

Either way, charging people money for our expansions isn't the way to get them attention.

Right, even if we bought Oni we still would give away our work on it for free. Also, if we could afford to buy the IP, what then? Make a new game? We don't have the manpower or talent for a fraction of the work that would be needed to do a sequel justice. I'm personally happy with how things are, just working on improving Oni and not worrying about who owns what.

Well I would buy the IP just for the source code that comes with it.

Dunno, I don't think it's worth that much money just to see the source. Maybe if it came with working network code ^_^

It would come with some network code at the very least.

Yeah, i was thinking it would be cheap, not 2$ but cheap enough, but i don't even know what expensive is, cheap might be like 10 grand or sumthin
Anyways, we may not be able to makea sequel, but not having to worry about copywrite in a few cases might be nice
and like Gumby said, im sure some of us would like the source code, and someone with enough experience could probably make imrpovements to the game by tweaking it? i dunno
As i said, its mostly wishful thinking, but worth checking into IMO

YTea because we're all on different locations aroun the world, so yea plus we only have like...maybe 20 people here right now, so yea ur right iritscen, but do u think u could make it with the manpower u had bfore?

Before? You mean, when the community was younger? I wasn't here then, but it doesn't seem to me that there were a lot more people around even when Oni released, and modding was almost non-existent for years, so it's hard to say how much talent there was back then.
I'd say that the community is actually in about as good a shape as it's ever been, but it still doesn't seem to have enough people with enough time to produce a game. Maybe if we can produce a new level (BGI), that will prove that we can handle a large project. But until we do that much, talking about a new game seems like pie in the sky.

That forum ran on more complex software. When it crashed and burned, Harry decided to go with something simpler, which is what we run on now, PunBB. But you looked at the previous forum ("Oni Central Forum - 2006"), not the original forum ("Oni Central Forum"). Look back at the original one that was thread-style to get a feel for what the early community was like. There's no index, though, so you have to search by user or keyword.
