Which OS do you use?

Just wondering, to make sure we can support you.

Re: Which OS do you use?

It'd be nice to know if anyone still runs a version of Windows below 2000 (95/98/98 SE/ME) as these versions are unsupported by Microsoft and it's pretty hard to find documentation for them. I know that Daodan and most of the Edition remains untested on these older versions. As for me, I test frequently on XP and Vista but I have no access to anything older than that.

Re: Which OS do you use?

It's too bad the poll only allows 10 choices, or Gumby could have added all those Windows versions as separate options.  Sorry that so many of the slots are taken up by Macs, but it was important for the work that we are doing right now to know exactly which processor and OS versions are still in use.

Incidentally, I am not planning to support ≤ OS 10.2, and 10.2 came out in 2002.  The closest equivalent would be if you supported nothing before XP SP1.  In both cases I can't imagine that many people are that far behind in the OS for their platform, but of course this poll will help us determine that.

Re: Which OS do you use?

10.5 (intel and PPc) and 10.4 (PPC) here. I still have a couple of machines that can boot OS 9, but they mostly boot tiger these days. For OS X, I suggest supporting tiger and never versions.

My home pc still use a mix of windows 2000 and Ubuntu.

If you want that I test anything in windows 2000 just say. (however the kernel is almost the same of windows xp)

In my laptop which is I use now I have a mix of Vista and Ubuntu x64. However I almost use Linux for everything and just use Vista for games.

Re: Which OS do you use?

I tried oni in wine, it is very slow (poor framerate) and is similar like when windows don't have installed latest graphic drivers.

Re: Which OS do you use?

Had been running Oni under Wine a loooooooooong time ago. I don't quite like Wine, gave me too many problems. Nowadays I'd use VirtualBox instead of Wine wink

I got it running well in wine, only problem is my framerate is too fast... The entire game runs at ~1.2x speed in wine with daodan and with the mouse lag issues without daodan.

Re: Which OS do you use?

Fwiw, Wine ran Oni beautifully on my Mac (better performance than PPC Mac Oni), but I had no sound :-\  But anyway, that's Mac, not Linux.  Different *nix.

Re: Which OS do you use?

Well the game runs fine now in Wine (the last time I tested it as a long time ago), however which frame seems have one or more black strip like this:

capturaecra.png

Its really annoying.

I had the same problem in video players, but I changed the output mode and it worked.

And it runs fine in virtualbox?

MMh, interesting…
Well, wine is wine, altough the linux version is surely more optimized and tested.
Of course you know that there is a mac version of oni…;)
And a "someday coming" intel one, too…

Last time I tried it ran completely normal besides a short hang up (<1 s) every about 30s. But I think that's a prob of my hardware (really slow hd). Will try again when I got a SSD wink

Right, the Wine test was done before the Intel build was started.  I wanted to see what kind of performance improvement to expect when Intel code ran natively on my Intel Mac.

Harry mentioned that there were issues with the poll extension. Guess that's still true.

IMO screw Vista, It's a fail. I'll pray that 7'll be better.

Re: Which OS do you use?

Well, we're interested in finding out what OS people are actually using, not which one is better.  We already had a massive argu--er, discussion about that, as I recall ^_^
