No sound at all

Hi,

There seems to be no sound at all on my version of Oni.  I recently bought the game on eBay for 10 dollars and the sound of it doesn't seem to work, I've installed the Anniversary Editiion and also the patched EXE and binkw32.dll file, as well as me checking to see if the volume is on mute.  Which it is not.

I hope the issue can be resolved for me, otherwise my 10 dollars has pretty much gone down the drain sad.

Thanks!

Update your sound drivers.

Windows 7 is pretty much the same thing.
Just keep in mind that your sound card is usually the only item you will find under "sound, video and game controllers".

Re: No sound at all

Well what would you know, I uninstalled and re-installed with the CD and I used this:
http://oni.bungie.org/community/forum/v … php?id=718

Put all of the files in the vanilla directory and the sound is back.  Heh.

Well I'm gonna install Anniversary Edition now and see if that causes the problem; don't think it will, though.

Edit: Nope, a clean re-install seemed to do the trick.  Thanks for the help!  (Anniversary Edition works fine, too!).

Re: No sound at all

Can anyone help me? I'm pretty sure this question has already been answered but I've been playing Oni for sometime, however the audio no longer works. =/ Does anyone know how to fix this? You'll have to be very specific because I'm not very good with this sort of thing. If you could let me know it'd be much appreciated! Thank you!

Re: No sound at all

Did you try reinstalling Oni like D.E.L.B. did?  And I assume you've checked the volume setting in Oni?  If so, maybe you can post your startup.txt here.  And are you using the AE?

Re: No sound at all

I did check the volume, as well as my computer's volume mixer. Also I have no idea what AE is lol. Or how to get to my startup.txt xD I'm very clueless.

Hmm, that seems normal.  And have you tried reinstalling Oni?

Re: No sound at all

I have not actually. Would I need the disc to re-install it? I've got the disc, it's just currently in a other state. If that is so I do not mind waiting. Would I just un-install the game like any other program? Also, if I were to un-install and re-install would my progress be saved?

Re: No sound at all

Yes, you should start over from the disc to make sure you have clean data.  I guess you can uninstall it using the typical Windows Add/Remove Programs thing, though it's not necessary because the whole installation is just the Oni/ folder, so you can just delete that.

Your progress is saved in the persist.dat file, so you should first copy that file somewhere else, then reinstall Oni and make sure it has sound, and then copy your old persist.dat file over the new one that the reinstalled Oni will create when it first launches.  That way you are making sure that the current persist.dat file is not the problem.

Re: No sound at all

Alright. I think I should be able to figure this out. I've actually got a walkthrough of the game, well playthrough, it's pretty bad. But if I have any other questions I guess I'll ask around, thank you!

Re: No sound at all

So if I save the files called level9_Final.dat, etc from the Oni folder which was in Program Files (x86) and then uninstall and re-install it I should have sound and be able to keep my saves?

Re: No sound at all

I deleted the folder 'Oni' in the Program Files (x86) and saved persist.dat but now when I try to install it with the disc it keeps popping up with an error saying it can't find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Oni\.exe'. What should I do?

Okay I think I just need the binkw32.dll file. Do you know where I can find that? Sorry for the spam.

Re: No sound at all

You can get the Daodan DLL (binkw32.dll) from here: http://mods.oni2.net/node/233.  Just go into the ZIP and pull out the files in win_only/.  realbink.dll allows the Daodan to still play the intro/outro movies.

Re: No sound at all

I swapped the old binkw32.dll with the one from the download link. However, it now says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002). Click OK to close the application". Do you know what I did wrong? I'm rather confused.

Not sure if that might be related but you might try to add the following lines to the daodan.ini under the "[Patch]" section:

showtriggervolumes=false
highres_console=false
