Please help, Windows 7 can't run oni. TRIED EVERTYTHING!

Okay, so my grandma just bought me and Oni on ebay, and of course, it can't run on my windows 7 labtop. ): I have been googling it for hours, downloading "patches" and NOTHING WORKS. What i get is the intro, and then a window pops up saying that Oni has stopped responding. It's so frustrating! This is my startup text.

daodan attached
begin initializing oni
looking for the game data folder
Unable to find game data folder at GameDataFolder
Unable to find game data folder at OniEngine\GameDataFolder

I'm not sure why it says daodan attatched, it must have been something I downloaded. Anyways, please help? I really want to play.

Re: Please help, Windows 7 can't run oni. TRIED EVERTYTHING!

I was reading through posts and tried to download the Edition, and it still wont launch. But, a debugger thing appeared and this is what it said:

Error 1 reported from File: F:\BungieDevelopment\BungieSource\OniProj\OniGameSource\Oni_GameSettings.c, Line: 46 (message follows)

Error 1 reported from File: F:\BungieDevelopment\BungieSource\OniProj\OniGameSource\Oni_Level.c, Line: 409 (message follows)

Error 1 reported from File: F:\BungieDevelopment\BungieSource\OniProj\OniGameSource\Oni.c, Line: 943 (message follows)

I can also post the new info in the startup if it will help ?

Yes, Gumby usually asks for the startup. I am not expert on this subject, so you will have to wait for him or someone who maybe had this problem too.
See if you have a Game Data Folder folder, Oni cannot be run without it.

If you do not have it, then try reinstalling it.

If you do, then I'd bet on problems with C scripts, because the errors are all related to files with the .C extension. In this case, wait for Gumby smile

Yes, startup.txt please. wink But I'd recommend just installing AE. Easy peasy lemon squeesy.

He said Edition won't launch.

But I recommend downloading from the depot, anyway.

Ah, misread. Where did you install the Edition?

Re: Please help, Windows 7 can't run oni. TRIED EVERTYTHING!

By the way, I deleted the edition I had previously tried to install and tried the link you gave me, and When i tried globalizing, I got this error:

Warning, handled exception: boost::filesystem::create_directory: Access is denied "..\GameDataFolder\"

Help?

- Check if the Game Data Folder folder is set as read-only (right click -> properties -> general). If it is, uncheck it.
- Also, run Install (the thing you use to globalize) as administrator (right click -> run as administrator) or it will not work, as far as I know.

Ah, sounds like your GDF (GameDataFolder) is locked.  You need to uncheck the Locked checkbox in the Properties window (at least, I think that's how it's done, the Windows folk here can help further).

Well, that is not common. Did you try reinstalling the game?

You cannot, in any way, play without the Game Data Folder, because it has all the levels in the game and a few more important stuff. If reinstalling doesn't work, maybe someone can give you a copy of their Game Data Folder...

Is a game data folder supposed to be installed with the retail game? Because my retail game does not install one. I don't know why. I tried installing this exact cd on my grandmother windows xp, and the game runs, but is so slow it is unplayable. And I'll try reinstalling though.

I don't know how to update my drivers, and how do I check if there is a game data folder in my CD?

Here, I took a screenshot of exactly what was downloaded from my oni CD:

Just open the CD. A method would be going to My Computer, right-clicking the CD and clicking on "Open" (I believe, but my system is not in english).

Oh, I understand now. These are shortcuts. Can you play without the CD?

Looks like the actual files are hidden, and the Oni icon is probably the installer?  I'm not familiar with the layout of the Windows Oni CD, but hang tight, nifty, I'm sure someone will be able to figure this out soon.

Edit: Can you take a picture like that, of your Oni installation on the hard drive?

I "opened" the CD through my computer like you said, and no game data folder is to be found. yikes What is wrong? I mean this exact CD works on a windows XP computer, just really slow. But I don't think there was a game data folder when it installed on that one either, yet it worked.

Um yes, but where am I taking the screen shot? Like what it looked like when I "opened" the CD?

EDIT: Try this:

- Right click any of the files in the folder in your screenshot -> look for the text wich says "target" and copy that text from the box and paste it here. That way we will know where it points to.

Oh, I see.  The Windows CD seems to have all the files packed into an installer archive, not like the Mac CD.  Well, I was wondering if you could post what the Oni folder on your HD looks like when you open it up.  There's an Oni.exe app... a read-me?... and what else?
