Day 3

Day 3 impressions

Bummer. Who saw that coming? No multiplayer in Oni. We got to see some footage which is good, and people should not give up hope on such a fantastic game simply because of the lack of multiplayer. There have been some great games which were solo only, both in the PC and Console world.

State of multiplayer in Oni

Apparently it is true that multiplayer has been cut from Oni, as seen in posts by Butch at the rampancy.net here and here

Gamefan has trailer, coverage of Oni

Gamefan posted a 10 MB mpeg fifty-one second trailer of the Oni trailer shown at E3. You can download it here. The corresponding page for it is here.

The coverage can be found here.

Thanks to Claude for the heads up.

No multiplayer?

Blues News posts news that Bungie decided to scrap multiplayer alltogether in Oni, eliminating any latency problems in multiplayer games which had plagued the development of tcp/ip able gaming.

A quote: Apparently the latency issues with their combination weapon and hand-to-hand combat system simply prevented any sort of Internet functionality, and supporting simply LAN play would have meant designing additional levels that would have detracted from the core of the gameplay.

Thanks to Hamish Sinclair for the heads up

Bungie's booth

CodeToad pointed out this very cool image of Bungie's booth. Wow...I want that huge banner :)

Oni footage

The All Games Network has footage of Oni gameplay here, it's in RealPlayer format.

Day 2

Day 2 impressions

Certainly another good day for the Oni community. More new shots, and more importantly, reactions to the showing of the new trailer and the playable build.

More exclusive shots!

Here are three more of the latest shots from Oni, showing a sequence where a Striker avoids a security guards' laser beam weapon and knocks him over with a sweeping kicking (or a charging low kick?). The security guard is a new character, and both characters are holding new weapons.

Daily Radar preview

Daily Radar posted a small preview.

Thanks to Nijhazer for the heads up.

More impressions

Tsao posted his impressions and what he saw at E3 on the Oni forum, he describes the anime sequence a bit more. Thanks Tsao!

rampancy.net posts Oniimpressions

Ferrex posted his impressions of Oni at E3 in a lenghty report. A very good read, I suggest you go look.

IMG posts impressions of Oni at E3

IMG Has a small write up of what they experienced at E3, here are a few snippets:

We stopped by Bungie's booth, just for kicks, even though our meeting wasn't until later; we were a bit taken aback by what we saw. Gone were the ranks of PCs and Macs - Oni was showing on a single machine, and that was the slick black box known as the Playstation 2.

Doug Zartman did say that Oni was coming along as expected, and that the level design and architecture was complete; this means that Bungie might be in the netplay tweaking and level scripting areas of development at this point, although that is pure speculation.

It can be read here.

Press Kit Distributed

rampancy.net posted excerpts from the Bungie Press Kit today... not all that much Oni-specific info, but a bit on the story. Take a look!

Day 1

Day 1 impressions

Wow, what a way to kick off E3 for Oni fans. A load of shots and little info. But a picture says more than a thousand words. We could see new features in Oni, Oni anime, and the PS2 controls. What will Day 2 bring us?

New screenshot!

Avault has a brand new screenshot of Konoko "putting the boots (literally) to some poor sap striker", like Bebop Blade put it in his forum post. And in another, he points out yet another new shot at Well Rounded Entertainment!

First shots of Oni on the PS2

Gamecenter has posted four very interesting shots of Oni on the Playstation 2. Graphical quality is a kin if not better than the pc version shots. Here is a really interesting shot though.

Kudos to Ostbye for posting at the forum and for e-mailing it me.

Exclusive new shot

Oni Central has obtained a brand new shot of Oni it shows off a couple of the new features: new weapons (contrails of them), and breakable glass. Seems like someone is energy weapon trigger happy... Take a look:

More shots, new preview

More E3 news! First, from Gamespot.co.uk, who have 15 shots of a monitor showing Oni on a PS2, if you look closely, you can see some new stuff. Also, some scenes of the new trailer are shown, which hopefully will be downloadable when E3 is over.

Here is a first look at some Oni anime! (the next three images are also anime)

The second comes from ps2.ign.com, who posted a preview of Oni that include "first hand impressions" and "new screenshots". The preview praises Oni as making it a game that makes much use of the PS2's capabilities. New screenshots are in the "archived media" section of this preview.

Very interesting is this image, as it shows the controller configuration for Oni. Also, this image is of interest, as it shows Konoko using a vehicle. Cutscene? Or part of the game?

Here is a shot demonstrating a new feature, shattering glass, as seen in the shot I received yesterday.

E3 certainly is providing a lot of stuff for all oniholics out there, showing that vehicles may indeed be used, glass can now shatter and new weapons are present. No new characters as of yet (unless you count the civilians in the factory shot posted last month.

Thanks to haloplayers.com and Pfhor for the heads up.
